Social Security Administration

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is an independent agency of the United States federal government that administers Social Security, a social insurance program consisting of retirement, disability, and survivors' benefits. To qualify for these benefits, most American workers pay Social Security taxes on their earnings; future benefits are based on the employees' contributions. (Source: Wikipedia)

Has any one been interviewed and/or selected for the Jackson Call Center yet? My friend and I both applied and scored well but were not selected for interviews even though I have a BS along with some graduate school courses and 20 years in CS and public service and she currently works as a CSR for a major medical/insurance company.   Is military preference playing a major part?

Veterans preference may be playing a part. SSA managers were just told this week to stop using the federal career intern program for hiring due to a pending lawsuit but they are allowed to follow through with any offers made under the program prior to this week - in my experience, SSA has done a LOT of recent hiring under this program., and that could have affected your chances. Mind you, I am only speculating. They should be required to tell you how many points you scored and the lowest number of points you would have needed to make the well qualified list. If they decided to hire under the federal career intern program I believe they would have to tell you that.

Of course vet preference is excluding very qualified non preference applicants!

Sorry but I have no problem with Veteran preference - they have earned it. No, I am not a veteran and am not married to one.

I know last week they were waiting for the green light to start calling people. They plan to interview locals first.

Has everyone on here applied to the same location? I applied to a location in Maryland and the process haven't started yet either.

Hi everyone. Someone posted in the New hires forum that he recieved the pre paperwork and has a interview at his local SSA office.  He also stated the Tenn office is a new center.  Looks like they finally got the green light.

Hello. Friends of mine interviewed for the position last week. However, they got notice this week that the vacancy was cancelled. H3Mom how did you apply and which grade did you apply for?

Canceled?? That is so sad. I was really hoping to get this one.  It would have been nice to work in a field that I have a degree in. Thanks for the update.

I am going to hold out until I receive a email stating it has been canceled. In my experience, I normally get a email when the announcement has been revoked.

Don’t give up. They still have to hire people to fill the positions. They just cannot do it through the FCIP program. My friends were interviewing through FCIP. They were supposed to be hiring over one hundred people in through that program.

If they're having trouble filling it will they post it again on usajobs.com?

What is the "fcip" program?  I applied via usajobs and not sure if I applied through that program.

I was declared "eligible not referred" to the Jackson, TN job. Does that mean I'm sunk or do I have other options?

Fishnut. No you are not sunk. When they open the position back up apply again. Since their is no FCIP that will up the number of people they have to hire from USA Jobs. They have to fill over 100 positions. Training was originally scheduled from Feb.-July so it should be posting some time soon. I plan to apply as well.
