DHS
The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face. This requires the dedication of more than 230,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. [Their] duties are wide-ranging, but [their] goal is clear: keeping America safe. (source: www.dhs.gov)

Greetings guys, Been on this forum for a while now but never posted. I found out that FPS sometimes attend the hiring fairs that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce put on, There are a few hiring heroes hiring fairs around the country that will be taking place soon. Check out their site and look up the one nearest to your location, link at the bottom. I made contact with them and they post a week before the event the employers that will be attending, for FPS look for "DHS/FPS". You have to register to attend but its free. Anyways wanted to put this out there, might be worth checking out for those of you that are interested in FPS. https://www.uschamberfou...n.org/events/hiringfairsGus

Anybody know if FPS will be posting Jobs anytime soon on USAjobs? I worked for on of their contract security companies before taking a GS job in Virginia and would like to jump on with FPS as an Inspector. From what I understand, they are always on bases recruiting military? Anyone have a recruiter contact information?

Having worked for FPS for going on 6 years now, I can say definitively that we work Mon-Fri 10 hour days. Some agencies simply have 1811's be 'available' for the 2 LEAP hours, but FPS has a policy that we actually work it. But I get in the office at 7am and leave at 5. I get home and actually have a life, go to my kid's soccer games, etc. We work mostly threat cases (IE Threats against fed employees). Some agents use the 18 USC 111 statute but I have had many more prosecutions using the lesser known 18 USC 115(a)(1)(B) Threats to Fed Employees statute, but I digress. We rarely work weekends, but we do respond after hours and on weekends if needed. I've had to wakeup at 2am and respond to white-powder letters at the IRS or evening protests at ICE facilities blocking busses and the like.

Be happy to answer questions about hiring, etc. @ninja316, I'm just curious, I used to hear about these FPS recruiting events held on or near military bases where they were looking for vets, presumably to hire them under special hiring authorities. Does FPS still do this? And if they do, how do you find out about them? |

After I got out, I got a job as an IEA with ICE (uniform) working on the southwest border. I finished my degree while working for ICE and applied for FPS Special Agent. I was interviewed and offered the job in Kansas City. The rest is history. I would assume, for AGENTS, they are looking for the same. For other FPS positions, K9, Inspector, etc.... generally speaking they prefer vets with prior LEO or physical security experience.

Yes they do do this, but the communication is so terrible within the agency I really have no idea how to get advanced notice about them other than to contact local FPS offices and inquire directly.

Don't they have a recruiting number? I worked for Paragon Security, which is one of their contract companies and have wanted to cross over to be an Inspector but the Inspectors where I use to work never put out any information about hiring events locally. I am a 10 point vet with experience and I am finding it very difficult to even find information on these folks.

Does anyone know what clearance is needed for regions 9 and/or 10 as it seems each region is different?
I have an active Secret with DHS so it would be nice to transfer that over to the FPS side of the house and streamline the process.

Hi Guys, Been a while since I posted. I have trying to apply with FPS but lately I have not found any hiring event. I made contact with my local Houston office, I was invited in by the area commander and he was very friendly and explained the job but unfortunately he told me even he doesn't know when they will start hiring or of hiring fairs, HR doesn't notify them and the different regions don't communicate. I have been keeping in touch with him with hopes he might hear something. Other then that I am working at the VA Police just waiting. If anyone hears any new news please share. Thanks! Hi Guys,
I'm new to this forum but have been following along ever since receiving my TJO (06/01/2017) for a 1801 position with FPS. I received an email last Monday from HR in regards to a "Strategic Pause" with respect to hiring actions and there is no time frame as to when the strategic pause will be lifted. Anyone else on the waiting list to be hired?
Thanks

I have an active Secret with DHS so it would be nice to transfer that over to the FPS side of the house and streamline the process. When I was in the process a secret was all that was needed for region 9.

Thanks The hiring process with FPS was the worst that I have ever experienced in my life. It only took them 2 years to tell me that my PTSD rating was too high and I needed a second opinion from an outside Dr. By that time I was so sick of them I just told them to f* off. Sorry for the rant, just letting you know that you can be in the hiring process for a loooong time. Edited by user Monday, October 9, 2017 12:08:05 AM(UTC)

Thanks Full on hiring freeze now until further notice, bad timing for people waiting for final offers still...
