The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face. This requires the dedication of more than 230,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. [Their] duties are wide-ranging, but [their] goal is clear: keeping America safe. (source: www.dhs.gov)

I'm surprised is taking this long to get my EOD, I'm prior military (USMC) and current fed within DHS for the last 6 years...

That's actually not that much time. I came from DHS (HSI) with a TS to USCIS and it took about 8 weeks to finally get the all clear to EOD. Hang in there, it's coming :)

Wow what kind of job did you get in uscis?? Especially leaving DHS HSI, I would think that would DSH HSI would be a better job to get into!

PrimaDawna & tknore,

Same here, but only one of my references has confirmed it. I’m not sure if the other one just hadn’t gotten back to me yet or they didn’t contact him..

It took 2 months from when I was given the Tentative offer.
Yesterday I was finally offered 2 EOD dates: May 12 & 26th for the Dallas service office located in the Irving area, as an Immigration Services Assistant GS6.

Well that gives me a sign of relief. I’ve been waiting on a Tentative offer for a month and a half for the ISO 1 position with the Dallas service center. They are really taking their time.

Usually the way it works regarding preliminary Background Investigations: a PSA from OPM will email you informing you they are working on your case and within 20 days they will determine if they will approve an EOD for you, if they do they let HR know that you've been approved to receive an EOD date, if OPM does not approve an EOD date it usually means they want to do the entire BI on you before you can get an EOD date.
It does not mean you have lost your chance/spot for the job, it just means you have to wait until the entire BI is complete which usually takes from 5 months to 15 months.

Information regarding Background investigations:
a. for Public Trust positions (not a Security Clearance), you fill out forms SF85 or SF85P, there's 3 levelst: low, moderate and high.
b. for Security Clearance positions, you fill out form SF86, for that there's 3 levels also: Classified, Secret and Top Secret.
Note: OPM performs a preliminary Background Investigation (takes between 20-60 days) just to determine if you can get an EOD date to start working before the entire investigation is done.

Hello everyone.
Have anyone (who is still trying to get in) heard anything? Interview invitations, anyone?
I only got 2 interviews, but a lot of referrals and nothing after.

I only applied for the Arlington position. Had my phone interview on April 10th, my references were contacted a couple weeks ago, and haven’t heard anything else yet.

Congrats! You can let HR know that neither date works for you, but you have to choose a date according to the federal pay period. They will then check with the office that you are going to in order to see if it is ok with them.

If you are a current federal employee, then they also have to get the office that is losing you to agree too.

Thus, it is basically up to the office you are going to.
