Disability Retirement
The federal government allows employees who are unable to work to retire under a disability
retirement. It is in the best interest of both employees and the federal government for employees to remain gainfully employed in their current grade or pay level, as long as they can provide useful and efficient service without endangering themselves, others or government property. Disability retirement should be the very last option and should be used only when attempts have been made to preserve an individual's employment, and those attempts have failed.

@micro50 - sorry - he only handles OPM. You'll need to find a different attorney for SSDI. It's probably better that way, as that attorney should also be local to you - they know the quirks of the ALJ's in the area who, more than likely, will be approving your application after the (almost inevitable) initial denials.
You might be lucky to find an attorney who can do both OPM and SSDI adequately. I looked for several weeks, but never found that combo, however.
Good luck!

Thanks in advance He bases his fee on about 10% of your year's salary. I heard he might now even accept payments. Some attorneys are doing contingencies, Harris Federal has their famous 100% money back if you don't win guarantee. McGill is amazing, my Doctor thought he was great!
