The Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Naples (NCTS Naples) provides secure, reliable and timely voice, video and data services to the U.S. Navy joint, allied and coalition customers. It has two manned sites: C4I at Capodichino and SATCOM at Lago Patria. NCTS Naples has approximately 20 Officers, 325 Enlisted personnel, and 40 civilians.

Please note that the Government of Japan (GOJ) pays 80% of the salary of local national employees. Further, the GOJ pays for the majority of the infrastructure of bases in Japan. The fact of the matter is that it costs us lees to operate an Air Base in Japan and gives us greater real-world, operational capability in short-notice contingency situations.

To many people make assumtions that have no basis in fact; politicians react to these opinons which are based on false premises. These reactions result in poor decisions such as the historical implementaiton of BRAC .

Naval Station Naples (NSA), 3,000 employees, active duty miliatry, foriegn nationals (1,000) and family members, and "Zero" Naval Ships?????????? Who are they realy supporting??? This is the only NAVAL BASE with NO Naval Ships attached to it?? BRAC should start closures of every single non-essential U.S. Base overseas FIRST! Before putting Americans out of work here in the USA. We have created the worlds biggest "Welfare-Systems" overseas by allowing countries to charge the USA for protecting them. Now wonder why each election year, there is a "black-out" on the subject of "FORIEGN AID" and the fleecing of AMERICA. While we continue to find excuses for terminating good hard working Americans from the job, we still employ thousand of foriegn workers on these military installations overseas and we still find a way to pay each and every last one of the annual "Bonuses", even with our economy the way it is??? Bottom Line: You can BRAC up to 50% of those bases overseas and save the tax-payers "BILLIONS".

You are absolutely correct. Not one stateside base should be closed before any overseas bases are closed...

Really? Even bases in the US that do little to add to our national defense? At least DOUGHBOZ caveated his point with the phrase "non-essential."

As for the premise that Naval Station Naples is the only Navy base without ships...well, that is false. Plenty of Navay bases without Ships. Look at all the Naval Air Stations for a start. Acquisition centers for another. The Naval Postgraduate School. And so on. I spent seven years (mil and civ time combined) at an Air Force base that had no aircraft, but their mission was buying a launching satellites used in national defense (and sometimes used by the public...like GPS constellation they put into place).
