Reemployed Annuitants

Generally speaking, the treatment of a retiree's annuity and pay upon reemployment in the Federal Government depends upon whether he or she retired on the basis of a regular, involuntary, or disability retirement. Potential benefits that may be earned as a result of the reemployment service depend primarily on the length of such service.

Some details on Reemployed Annuitants may be found in a PDF file at OPM's Web Site by clicking here.

If you have questions regarding how this can affect you, feel free to post the quesitons here. Or perhaps you have been through this process before and can offer some helpful suggestions...please share.

Greetings,

I was wondering if someone could help, back in Jun 2003, I took an early retirement and received a VISP. At that time, the only requirement to come back to Fed Service was that you had to set out for five years or you had to pay back the VISP. A year or so later, they implemented the new policy on reemployment of federal annuitants. I was just wondering if they ever had a grandfather clause or has any court cases challenged this ruling. Had I known about this policy at the time of my retirement and implications, I would have never have taken it. I just don’t think it’s fair that they can do this; it was different set of rules. People retiring now after this ruling know exactly what there getting into. Any advice would be helpful.
