DHS

The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face. This requires the dedication of more than 230,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. [Their] duties are wide-ranging, but [their] goal is clear: keeping America safe. (source: www.dhs.gov)

Just wondering if anyone knows if a TSO can transfer to another airport before their 1-2 yr probation period is complete? Their seems to be a lot of confusion about this where I work.

Admin? I work at a really small airport, the admin are TSOs. I asked the TSM, well she is trying to find the answer, but I was just trying to find out sooner.

Try contacting the HR Specialist at your Hub Airport.  If you're interested in transferring to a Cat I or X airport, TSA has a National Voluntary Transfer Process that allows you to register at your airport of choice for transfer.  For those TSO's that qualify, the list is ranked in order of seniority.  As usual, your best shot at transfer is to a large and/or hard-to-fill airport.  The HR Specialist at your Hub airport should be able to provide you with specific details.  As far as how long you have to wait before transfer, with this new process you only have to be a fully certified TSO.

You must wait at least 1 year before you are eligible to transfer. If you have circumstances that requires an earlier transfer, those are worked on a case-by-case basis.

But, the airport you want to go to, has to have an opening and be willing to bring you in. You may also drop in grade (STSO to LTSO; LTSO to TSO; STSO to TSO). You may go from F/T to P/T.

Also, your current FSD has to approve your transfer.

As mrbsf mentioned, contacting the HR office where you are looking to relocate to is the best option, as they can tell you the info you are looking for.

All the best.
