i heard new test on computer is harder than paper one, it's really hard to get score around 85. is that true.

psepet - Without vet points, the highest scores I've heard of anyone getting on the 473 are mid-80s (I haven't heard of anyone getting a score higher than 87).  I took the 473 on paper in December 2007, and I scored 84.9 (was hired as a PTF carrier in March 2008).  Although I took the test on paper, it was the newer version of the test.  It was possible to get 100 on the previous version of the test; some who took the previous version of the test (and haven't taken the current version of the test) might tell you that a score in the 80s is not a good score, but 83 is a good score.

When I took the "clerk-carrier" exam  I scored 94.6  and was the last one hired off the register.

dhacker56 - I think the newer version of the exam was introduced in 2004; did you take the test prior to 2004?

Nobody knows what score is high enough to be hired because it depends on how many people take the test and thus how many names are on the register, as well as how many PSEs are going to be hired. Since there will not be a great number of them at any plant or office, I think anybody's chances of getting one of those jobs is pretty slim unless you're a veteran or have a score in the mid- to upper 80s. Like someone said below, a mid-80s score on the new 473 (the one that was created in about 2004) is quite good. I have never heard of anyone getting a score over 88 or 89 on this one.

I have scored in the high 90s on every civil service test I have taken, in several different states over 30-40 years, but my score on the 473 exam was only 82. So I believe you did well to get an 83.

Good luck.

To be honest, the score will not get you hired. It will only get you interviewed. The interviewer is the one who will determine whether or not you get hired. I know of one interviewer who did not approve anyone for employment, and it held with the HR people. He was a real SOB. rich1mc12011-06-26 08:47:31

It's good enough for an interview, but thats all it is. Even then it has to be in test score sequence.

I took the test yesterday. I felt that I had done fairly well on the test, even most of the memory section. When I saw my result, 82.20, I was kinda disappointed. I do have 5 veteran preference points, so you guys think this is enough get to an interview for an RCA?

That's Rural Carrier right? They had me come in and do the assessment when I applied for it.

Hi, I made an 82.4 on the 473 and I applied for PSE Clerk in two different cities in Georgia. My status for one of them is "hiring list" for one, and my status changed from "application entry" to "pre-screening" for the other city which is my hometown. The computer based test is really easy, its just the last part you have to memorize the address ranges and I think that's where I probably missed a couple.

Hi, I withdrew my app from Columbus, GA because I'm not within commuting distance. That's the one where I was on the "Hiring List". I was suppose to go last Friday. The position for Macon, GA which is my hometown is still being "Pre-screened".  A friend of mine who works there said that they had a meeting with the union and they stated that 60 people have already been interviewed, so I hope I can get one. I hate the job I'm working at now.
