The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is a federal law enforcement agency under the United States Department of Justice, tasked with combating drug smuggling and use within the United States. Not only is the DEA the lead agency for domestic enforcement of the drug policy of the United States sharing concurrent jurisdiction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, it also has sole responsibility for coordinating and pursuing U.S. drug investigations abroad.

My clearance investigation has been in progress since October 2010 -- or at least that was when I was interviewed by the investigator. Shortly after he spoke with me, he spoke with my references (including visiting and calling them). But then, in December, I was given a start date. About a week later, my investigator called me again with one more question, but I haven't heard from him since. Last week, I inquired into the status of my investigation with our local security specialist, and he said my clearance is still pending. Since I was hired under a "waiver" that expires after a year, do I have anything to worry about?? Is it safe to assume that my clearance will go through at some point?? I have been on the job for over 6 months, and it also seems to be holding up my grade increase.
