I am about to interview for a position that just opened up because 2 people just retired. I am retirement eligible in less than 2 years, 6 months. However, my child will be starting college, probably at a private school, in September 2007. Therefore, I will not be able to afford to retire until 2011.

I think that they might be concerned about losing people to retirement again in a relatively short time. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to raise the information that I will be around for at least 5 years, when the interviewer won't be able to ask the question because that would run afoul of the Age Discrimination Statutes? I also don't want to insult the interviewer by bringing this up in a way that might give the impression that I expect that he would discriminate based on age without this information, even if I truly expect that he might.

Perhaps you could mention something in your career objectives to indicate how long you plan to continue working. Another alternative would be to list something in the additional information section... spare time activities, PTA membership, volunteering at school (assuming you don't want to come right out and say you have a 16/17-year-old son or daughter).
