What are typical hours you work as a contractor per week?  I'm talking about college/skill educated jobs like IT analyst, intelligence analyst, contract specialist, etc.

40 hours. most offices i've worked in or with have relatively flexible hours... allowing people to come in anywhere between 6 and 930am, but most come in b/w 7 and 8.

its really going to depend on the contract and the office you're working with. some of those jobs might be ***** work, 12 hour days, or some kind of rotating schedule.

Why do we hear a lot of people talking about government contractors being made to work 50+ hours a week.

I've only worked on site with govt agencies, usually working with no more than one or two other contractors, all others being civilians. If someone worked more than 40 than hours, comp time is accrued.

On my contract, we work 80 hours every two weeks. I work a normal 40-hour work week. Some people work 9 hours for 8 days, then one 8-hour day so they can get a regular day off.

I'm salaried, but the hourly people get overtime when they go over. I think I get straight time, but overtime for anyone has to be approved and is rare. We even need government approval for overtime.

With my last company, we were expected to average more than 40 hours a week. Salaried didn't get any kind of overtime. But at the same time, they didn't get us too much grief if you had to take off early for a doctors appointment/kid's baseball game, AS LONG AS YOU HAD AN AVERAGE ABOVE 40.

However, overall it would really depend on the individual company, how well they're staffed, etc. I once met a guy who worked for Boeing or Lockheed who worked 6 or 7 days a week, 12 hours a day. He made a lot of money in overtime.
