Could there possibly be a better place to learn about how to get a job as a Schedule A candidate than to attend this conference?

The Perspectives on Employment of Persons with Disabilities (Perspectives) Conference Planning Committee encourages you to register for the 30thAnnual Perspectives Conference, December 7-9, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda, in Bethesda, Maryland. Perspectives is the largest national conference focused entirely on the employment of individuals with disabilities in the federal sector.

Get an edge in recruiting, hiring and retaining qualified federal employees with disabilities. Attendees will be provided the latest information on personnel policies and practices, developments in technology, legal updates, and resources that will help your agency achieve its hiring, recruiting, and retention goals. Through workshops and general sessions, you will hear from key officials and experts knowledgeable in disability employment issues in the federal sector.

Perspectives also offers a unique opportunity to learn from and network with your federal colleagues from across the nation. Federal HR and EEO specialists, hiring managers, and others who manage employment matters concerning persons with disabilities should attend!

That sounds like a great conference! If you have the opportunity to go, you should definitely attend. I'm so thankful that I got a job with the VA through Schedule A, and there aren't many people hired that way (or so I've heard). My job is going well so far, thank goodness. It has been a little bit of an adjustment, though. My supervisor and the rest of the people in the department are great to work with. Best of luck in your search! Smile

Glad to hear you have found employment.

I'm not sure about the conference.  It's designed for HR folks at federal agencies.  I would have to be very discreet, even if they would accept my registration.

Still, I'm inclined to see if they will let me in and listen and mingle with the HR people.  Of course, I would have a few copies of my resume and Schedule A letter.

You mentioned previously that you volunteered.  How does that work exactly?  I'm in a position to volunteer, but how do you get in the door to do that?
