My Retirement Timeline -

01/03/2017 Last Day - CSRS 37 years & 2 months of service (2 agencies)

01/13/2017 Received final paycheck with Lump Sum Leave Payment

02/7/2017 OPM Received my application & 1st interim Payment was deposited in my bank account

02/09/2017 Received OPM Case Number

02/14/2017 Received temporary password for Services Online account

03/1/2017 Received 2nd Interim Payment – Federal tax adjustment, 80% of Finalized Net Monthly Annuity

04/1/2017 Received 3rd Interim Payment – 80% of Finalized Net Monthly Annuity

04/13/2017 Assigned to Specialist

04/20/2017 Received notice my bank address had been updated ( I thought this was a sign I was close to being finalized and I was right). Also noticed my tax withholding for the May interim check contained the tax withholding I requested in my retirement package.

04/25/2017 Case finalized

04/29/2017 Received a letter in the mail that I was finalized however, OPM notified me that originally when I began my service my first year I paid into SSN rather than the retirement system (who knew..) so to get that year back I have to pay back that amount plus interest otherwise I would lose $250 a month in my annuity. I have thirty days to pay back or June 1st will be my finalized reduced amt. Luckily I had all my paperwork and OPM unfortunately was correct - it was never caught by myself or by my agency. It was not that much considering it was 36/37 years ago and will be returned with the added amt in my annuity in a little over a year so it was a no brainer to pay it back.

5/1/2017 Received 4th interim payment including my additional Federal tax withholding and back pay all the way back to Jan 4th.

5/1/2017 Received Blue Book based on 36 years not 37 years. I put a Check in the mail on 05/01/2017.

06/01/2017 Will receive my finalized annuity. Services Online is currently showing the amount based on not paying back that first year.

I spoke to my case worker and once they receive my redeposit they will recalculate my back pay and final annuity will be updated for June 1st payment. So thankful they gave me the option to pay it back and not just finalized it without telling me what happened! Final amount she calculated with the year paid back ended up being $20.00 a month less than my agency predicted.

So I am happy to finally be done!

My Retirement Timeline

04/29/2017 Last Day - CSRS Offset (3 agencies)

05/08/2017 Received final paycheck

05/22/2017 Received lump sum leave payment (oddly, another $22 showed up two weeks later)

06/16/2017 File sent to OPM - Boyers, PA

06/23/2017 CSA# received (Note: I will not get a password, I was told in an email from OPM, because I am a "minus" retiree)

09/13/2017 Called OPM to ask about progress in computing my retirement. Mostly I am concerned my BCBS has not been paid since April. I was told an update letter would be sent via snail mail in about 10 days. The hold-up is due to the Federal Erroneous Retirement Coverage Corrections Act (FERCCA).

09/22/2017 Some sort of OPM deposit in my account (not sure for what)

09/29/2017 Blue retirement booklet came in the mail. I am no longer a "minus retiree" as OPM credited (deposited for) my military years. Not sure why, but I assume due to FERCCA. That gave me 19 years and 11 months of service for retirement.

P.S. I have been surviving on my social security since May 1, but it is not enough (considering I have a new mortgage). So I start a job Oct 2!!!!!!!

I retired Jan 3 2017 I retired with 43 yrs. and 5 months. I haven't received my full final check yet. It is now June 8th and I'm Wondering just how long it is going to take to receive my full retirement check. I think I'm receiving about 50% of what my HR people said my check amount would be approximately. I can't figure this out I had some money set aside and that is helping, but my funds are getting pretty slim. Any Help in trying to resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry you were given incorrect information from CPAC. Never enclose Divorce decree info UNLESS prior spouse was awarded part of your annuity! I hope it only delays it 4 months. It could be a lot longer. I sure would call up whoever told you that and give them an earful! Wish you would have asked here, it has come up before. What percentage of your expected final annuity did you receive as Interim payment? I ask because another poster on here went through the Court Ordered Benefits branch, and was only receiving less than 40% as Interim.

Retired 5 Aug 2017 and started my interim payments on 1 Sep. Checked the OPM website and saw that my case was finalized on 29 Jan 2018. Got a letter 1 Feb saying what my Annuity Supplement would be starting 1 Mar 2018. So six months is about right for my case. I had 7 years with FERS and bought back 13 years of USMCR time.

Yep, some really, really bad info. Oh well, all I can do now is wait. I figure if I'm living with this little measley interim pension, when they do finalize it I will be used to living without it. Into savings it will go. I figure with this stupid delay finalization towards the end of the year is likely.

I posted this as I wanted others to NOT send previous marriage documents if there was no entitlement to former spouses....Ugh!!

Talk about goobers at CPAC.

Forgive me for butting in... I'm not planning on retiring any time soon but it will be here before I know it, so I check out this discussion from time to time.

So you are expected to retire, then go without income for several months??? Do you get "back pay" when the retirement application is finally processed and approved? I see some reference to an "interim pension."

And I thought retirement processing at my last job was shaky.

the retirement planning section would be a better place to ask this question.

this is why you save your annual leave to hold you over. most get a small amount until finalized.
