Comfort Stops
Reasonable comfort stops will not be deducted from the
carrier’s actual time. M-00242 9/13/76

Comfort stops
In addition to your lunch period and break periods,
you may take any comfort stops reasonably
necessary during the course of performing you r
street duties. Reasonable comfort stops will not
be deducted from your actual time . In fact, the
examiner may not suggest or forbid any rest or
comfort stops.

I make a point of taking, during either "A Walk" or during an official route inspection, TWO COMFORT STOPS.

In my case, the nearest location is a diner about 2 miles away. The next nearest location is a postal station about 3 miles away. I let the "walker" choose.
Also, MOST OF THE TIME the examiner needs to go too! (You GOTTA GO SOMETIME!).

These two comfort stops can easily add a combined 1/2 hour to the street time. THEY ARE NOT COMBINED WITH THE TWO 10-MINUTE BREAKS OR LUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They ARE REASONABLE.

SO TAKE THEM, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE BEING WALKED!

A carrier that does not know his rights, HAS NO RIGHTS.

--leave office, begin route.
--1-1/hours later, take 10 minute break.
--30 minutes later, take comfort stop.
--1 hour later, take lunch.
--1-1/2 hours later, take 2nd comfort stop.
--1 hour later, take 2nd 10 minute break.
HEY, MAYBE LUNCH DIDN'T AGREE WITH YOU! TAKE ANOTHER COMFORT STOP!

Anyway, THIS IS IMPORTANT:

I've been a carrier for over a quarter century and NEVER....EVER.....has a route examiner "red circled" the time it took while taking two comfort stops a day.

NEVER.

I wish that I was your Steward. This is THE EASIEST CASE TO WIN EVER.

If you were disciplined for that, and the grievance went to arbitration (or even just to step 2!) the supervisor would be laughed out of the room and HIS CREDIBILITY WITH REGARD TO FUTURE "ISSUES" WOULD BE PERMANENTLY CONTAMINATED.

We do get cases like this from time to time, but never TWICE from the same management mental midget.

What's next?
"You can't drink more than one pint of water per hour! IT MIGHT MAKE YOU HAVE TO PEE!"

Good grief!

(Yeah, I'll get kidney stones and piss dark brown urine just so you can make your PFP numbers. Yeah, like THAT'LL Happen!).
