Social Security Administration

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is an independent agency of the United States federal government that administers Social Security, a social insurance program consisting of retirement, disability, and survivors' benefits. To qualify for these benefits, most American workers pay Social Security taxes on their earnings; future benefits are based on the employees' contributions. (Source: Wikipedia)

Hey guys,

Has anyone that applied for the BA or CR position on February 4th - 8th heard anything back about taking the ACWA exam?  Thanks!

Not yet, since the postings were taken down before the closing date, I think it's safe to assume that they met their application cap.  They probably won't send anything out until the week before the exam.

I was a BA (I started in 2004) and then a CR. I never took a test? I interviewed and then started training class. What is the test for?

@Crystal129:  From what I've read on the forums, the ACWA exam has only been utilized recently (the last few years) by the SSA.  While I'm sure it serves an actual purpose, I believe the real reason for its use is to trim the number of applicants to a reasonable number, and also to be used as a deciding factor between choosing who to hire after the interview stage.

Was thanked: 2 time(s) in 1 post(s)
I believe they started using the exam when they started hiring a lot of BAs in the mid to late 2000s under the FCIP (Federal Career Intern Program), before that got shot down. It seems to be a good tool for weeding out applicants that simply don't have the aptitude needed for the BA job.

ok I guess that could be it.  I was not aware of it.  Everyone in our classes when I came in (around 70 people total) had atleast undergraduate or graduate degrees.

I was hired in 2010 as a BA and I didn't take an exam.  Is this only in certain PC's?

@daniel175:  Really now?  That's interesting, which PC were you hired at?  You were just hired through an interview?  The recent announcement for BAs in NY stated that we had to take the ACWA exam.  In the past few years, I've seen this to be the case, at least in this area.

Hm, I am having trouble editing my posts, so I apologize for the double-post.

I received an email today with instructions and my invitation to take the exam.

I also received an email today regarding the exam.  I am scheduled to take it on the 28th, but due to a conflict, I've asked to reschedule.

I haven't.  They said they might not get back to us until 3 weeks after the exam (next Wed.), and...I expect them not to get back to us until next Wed.   I wouldn't worry about it otherwise and continue looking for other opportunities.  Even after getting the results, it could stil be some time afterwards before interviews are set up.

Ah I was just wondering for an acquaintance that took the exam.  I'm currently a BA.

Nope. Doesn't seem like anyone I know who had taken the exam has heard anything.

I received a call for an interview today for the CR position. The scores will go out later, but they will start interviews next week

Yea it seems that the phone calls are being made today.  A friend at work told me that her friend also received a phone call for the CR interview.  I'm wondering if the BA interview calls are going out the same day.  Seems like they would hire more CRs than BAs at the current time.

To my knowledge CRs are assigned to various field offices (not exactly sure how they accommodate in terms of location). BAs get sent to the service center in Jamaica, Queens.
