Looking for some advice on relocating for a position in Suitland MD with wife and two small boys (maybe another on the way) on a GS-7 salary.  We have been living the good life in a rural NC with HUGE yard and a fenced in portion for the boys and dog.  I am willing to commute up to 45min to 1 hour one way.  Is there any hope to finding a place to rent for now in the surrounding area thats safe with a yard, for $1500 a month or preferably much less?? We just dont know what are realistic expectations for the area.  Thanks for any advice y'all can provide.

You need to visit the DC area.  A 45 minute to 1 hour commute takes you about 20-25 miles from Suitland which include DC and Maryland suburbs but also parts of Northern Virginia.

As a general rule, the closer you are to DC the higher the prices.
