... In the private sector.

So long, Federal Troll boards. Hopefully this has been cleaned up a bit next time I'm looking.

Doubt it.

Preference Vet
Directly applicable military skills and training
Bachelors Degree
13 Months of applications
154 Federal Job applications
27 Interviews
4 SO's say I had the best federal resume they'd ever seen
13 of them bothered to actually tell me I wasn't selected, not including the 3 who promised to directly call me and tell me either way

Come to federal jobs board ... 90% trolls.

Yeah. Good luck.

Peace!

I use to not think highley of private secter for not hirring to many Veterans but the private secter has changed and is now hirring alot more Veterans.  Are President has given more tax breaks to hirre more Veterans which is a great thing for Veterans eventhough Veterans still have it very hard.

Public relations, which is what I did in the military.

Since then it's been PR, media production, broadcasting, etc. I was really hoping to get back into the federal side of things, but I applied/interviewed/accepted this new job in the span of three weeks.

Good luck here. Sad to see that code runner took such a nose dive. Not sure how you all put up with it.

Hope things work out.  Let us know in a few months if this still seems to be a positive move.

Well, there is a good reason you didn't get the fed job and it is because you chose not to initiate a fact finding process.  It is a given that your resume stands out simply because of your military background but you failed to realize honorable Veterans are discriminated against by many law evading hiring officials including the 3 who were too coward to call you back.  If you had spent less time parading around here on FederalSoup with the troll-labeling gang and more time litigating, you'd probably be sitting in your nice GS position right now.  A Veteran interviewed 27 times for a federal position with none on the interviews resulting into successful job placement is rather disgraceful.  By you taking the private sector position shows that you are probably giving up.  When or if you do come back, hopefully there's an attitude change and that you'll also have some fact-finding results to share with us on many of those jobs you applied for rather than come back to play forum troll police.

What is your current job occupation, Big Sarge? I have a feeling that the differences between you and the OP is that the OP is an honorable veteran who is now gainfully employed...and that you are neither.TheFrederalGovt2012-04-10 09:13:00

Akiva, the above post is a good example of what you should NOT spend your time doing when you come back to the site.  Frederalgovt is either one of those corrupt HR types or hiring officials who just hates to see awareness being spreaded and like to suppress the facts.  Again, remember to stay on topic and refrain from the nonsense.

Akiva,

When I applied for the gov I didn't get hired in the same field that I did in the Army.  I eventually got hired but it was in a different field (very similar but still different)

I'm sure not all the 154 jobs the OP applied for was directly related to the military occupation as is the case with the majority of Vets.  The special skills acquired while serving in the military is expected to be applied to various career fields so whats your point?
