Posting a new thread:

I interviewed for a position with the DHS

My interview letter read as follows :

You are receiving this email from the Department of Homeland Security, Citizenship and Immigration Services, *****  Verification Operations Center.  Your name was provided to us as an eligible candidate for the position of Management & Program Assistant, grade level 5, 6 ,7.

Will I receive a tentative offer at Grade 5 or grade 7?

If I receive the lower grade, should I negotiate or would that jeopardize my chances of employment?

If they offer a lower grade, ask them why you aren't offered a higher grade.  This shouldn't have any effect on the original offer.

Get your foot in the door, and you'll move up quickly.  Congrats.

Sounds like a ladder position.  They start you off at GS-5, then each year you get promoted to the next grade.  In 3 years, you would be a GS-7.

Thanks to all for your input so far.

I will definitely keep the list posted because this is important information for future applicants.

Got my tentative offer yesterday. Grade 5 as suspected.

Needless to say I accepted. The process moves forward!
