Hey everyone. I was definitely curious to hear what the average PFT score is and what everyone is aiming for. I feel like I'm an athletic guy, but even so, this is a challenging test. The sit-ups pose the most challenge for me, but overall right now my goal is a 25 for the four events, 30 if you include pull-up. I'll be taking my first crack at a full test tomorrow.

I'd love to hear what everyone else's goals are and any tips or tricks on improving scores. Do we need to include the pull-ups? Will a better score increase our chances of getting an earlier Phase II date?

I haven't tested myself yet, my first time will be tomorrow, but I wasn't sure if we have to add the pull-ups or not on our Self PFT sheet or not. I'm not really concerned about failing, but I was assuming the score of 12 was for only the 4 events.

I just got an e-mail from my field office to submit a self assessed PFT score within 30 days. All I do is Crossfit 4 times a week and run here and there. I plan to test myself next weekend. Hope I can get a passing score and then improve from there...

I did my first self PFT today after nearly a month of not working out and a few years of never running outside of short sprints during sports and I wound up with a 20. It's good enough to pass and I'll submit it so I can move forward with my M&G, but definitely not where I want to be ultimately. I know my form wasn't great at towards the last 15 seconds of my sit-ups and my last few push-ups and the 1.5 mile crushed me. That being said, it seems like with the delays that come with moving to Phase II, if I even get there, I should have plenty of time to get my score closer to the 30 range and that's where I want to be. 20 sounds good to me, Rudy. I plan to do my self assessment this weekend. Hoping to get near 20 and then improve from there.

From what the AC told us at our M&G all you need at the self assessment stage is a passing score. They like to see you above 20 before going to the Q, but before that it doesn't factor into how competitive you are as an applicant.

Took the PFT a couple of times and very few people passed with a 12-14, most people that passed were close to 20. At least 75% of people failed the PFT when I took it. It is very hard and you need to practice it the way it is administered. I would even take less than 5 minute breaks between events when training for this thing. Mant variables; weather, nerves, PFT instructor, etc. Good luck all.

20 is a good score to shoot for. Don't go into it with only a month's prep time though. Prepare as much as you can.

Take away about 5 point from your field PFT, that's what you might score here. The protocol is strict, especially for your first PFT. I would say work mostly on push ups and sit ups. Aim to practice doing 10 to 15 more than your goal so you have the endurance when they keep repeating a number cus you're not going low enough.

How are the new human growth hormones used for strength training viewed in the drug questionnaires and drug testing?

I would stay away from anything unnatural. You don't want something small to prevent you from getting a Q class, especially since there are fewer and fewer classes coming through here.
