Department of Defense

The Department of Defense (DoD) is charged with coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the government relating directly to national security and the United States armed forces. The mission of the Department of Defense is to provide the military forces needed to deter war and to protect the security of our country.

The Department of Defense is America's oldest and largest government agency -tracing its roots back to pre-Revolutionary times. Today, the Department is not only in charge of the military, but it also employs a civilian force of thousands. With over 1.4 million men and women on active duty, and 718,000 civilian personnel, DoD is the nation's largest employer. Another 1.1 million serve in the National Guard and Reserve forces. More than 2 million military retirees and their family members receive benefits.

Perhaps you are working for the DoD or interested in working for the DoD. Here is a forum to share your experience with the DoD.

I bet it will be service wide if full sequester hits. This is shameful. I don't know all the details behind it..who's idea it was and all that stuff but as a Reagan Republican i say this boldly, the Tea Party is holding us hostage. They are willing to drive us into a recession for very small cuts.

My understanding is that detailed plans on how each Service/Agency will implement sequester is due to DoD on 2/15. Most likely at that point you will have an answer as to whether VERA/VSIP will be part of the plan for AF.

It is just not the TEA PARTY folks. Obama wont come off his outlandish spending requests either!

Yes daddygo, it's a no win situation. Being stuck in the middle like this is frustrating. If i can get out and make close to what i do now in the private sector, i will leave. I have over 5 years so i won't lose much.

Yeah, i know this budget deal sucks. And what ever happens will not be pretty.

My question was more along the lines of what are we going to do about it. Ive got most of my time in. I would gladly accept the VISP. But what i want is to retire without being penalized for leaving a couple of years early.

On another thread it has been said that some Air Force bases have already started sending out VERA applications.

Any information out there concerning bases, commands or specific programs? Besides the wait till the 15th?   MC5Wes2013-02-07 12:09:47

WR-ALC has a maintenance wing that is currently approved for VERA/VSIP. Hope to offer it to 300 individuals.

Looks like Warner Robbins finished their VERA/VSIP.

402 this month. With 608 last year. Which is almost 10 percent of the total work force.
