I had chats with both current and retired DS Agents. I went to a FS oral assessment information session with my local DIR, who broke down that process in great detail, and based on my experience the FS and DS assessments are somewhat similar--minus case management and team exercise. Have a few examples from your own life to demonstrate each of the 13 FS dimensions. Be confident and comfortable in your own skin. Make sure that they know you're a leader, a team player, and a well-rounded individual. Best of luck!

To anyone who has recently tested for this position, approximately how many other candidates were at the event? I ask purely out of curiosity since this seems to be the only oasis of applicants in the wilderness of the internet. All other Fed LE positions have many many pages dedicated to them on numerous forums. It's different.

I only saw 3-4 other applicants in the waiting area between exam sessions at my testing site in Rosslyn, VA. Most were prior military like me and/or police officers. We had a former JAG officer/civilian prosecutor in our group.
FYI- My security and medical clearances are still being processed...
Good luck with your candidacy!

By the time they were making an offer to me, however, I saw no other candidates waiting around the office like me. Remember, if you don't make it through any part of the examination, they cut you loose for the day and tell you to try again next time. For all I know, I may have been the only candidate who was fully successful that day.

I just received my invite for the oral assessment for Diplomatic Security. Do they let you know the day of your interview whether or not you have passed? Does anyone know once you have been cleared whether or not you join the next class for training, or is it a roster system like the FS?
So many questions!
Joeypee- have you received your clearance yet?

I'm pretty sure it is a "register" like for the foreign service, but the number of DS candidates is so much smaller that you will probably get into the next available class. DS Agent is a category of "Foreign Service Specialist" and I think they are able to manage the pipeline better for specialists so you don't have a huge number of people on the register with more getting added all the time, as is the case for FSO "generalists." |

Any current DS agents can answer some questions? Currently working for state level LE and looking for an insight.
