Hi!
Knowledge and experience needed please.
I work in a small hospital which is losing its ICU. Some of the civilians (GS11) will be coming to the medical surgical ward, (GS 10).
We will be training them to the floor (ok) and also training them to care for a section of the patient population that this ICU never sees, ie postpartum moms and new babies, mentally unstable and restrainted patients, bili babies, otherwise sick babies, toddlers and children ( not ok).
They will retain GS11 status, but no longer move up in steps, so we've been told .
We will retain GS 10 status period.
So after training, we will do the exact same job. But base pay difference is about 6000.00 a year.

They have Grade and Pay Retention because their unit is being closed. They are higher level employees now being forced to work in lower level jobs. I think any of them would prefer to have their old jobs back. For 2 years, they get retained grade. After that, they get retained pay. "If your former rate of basic pay fits in the pay range for the lower-graded position, you will be placed in the lower pay range without a reduction in pay and pay retention will cease. If your former rate of basic pay is greater than the maximum rate of the pay range for the new position, your former rate will be continued as a retained rate (not to exceed 150 percent of the maximum rate for the grade in which you have been placed). You will then receive 50 percent of any adjustments (e.g., annual salary increases) in the maximum rate for the lower (reduced) grade until that maximum rate equals or exceeds your higher (retained) rate. At that point, pay retention will cease."
