Goldscca, that sounds like such a long wait! Do you know what tier your public trust investigation is? Mine is a 2, and I’m really hoping it doesn’t take 2 months.

Public Trust - Moderate Risk

When the Security & Fac. Program Coordinator E-mailed me the information to fill out the EQIP (8/5/2019) she told me that the process would take 60-120 days.
I e-mailed the HR contact that I had to confirm if that timeline seemed correct and they told me that it could even take longer than that.
I am currently on day 74 since I was given that timeline, so in my case it appears to be normal.

When I am contacted again by someone I will make sure I post an update.

Oh great, that’s what mine is too. My HR contact had told me 2-4 weeks, and my hiring official thought it would be 1-2 weeks. Thanks for the update!

That may still be the case. If the security office feels that you do not pose a risk, they may clear you for contingent employment pending the completion of the investigation. The criteria to get offered contingent employment is much more strict than the actual clearance criteria that way they can avoid letting anyone start that may end up not passing the investigation.

This would mean you would start working before the investigation is even complete...My position was not eligible for this, and unfortunately I do not know any more about how it works but maybe that is the plan HR and your hiring official has for you. You could always send HR an E-mail and ask.

My future sup thought the final offer would come within 2 weeks of the TO, but I haven’t heard anything yet.
Interestingly enough, the hiring official called me yesterday saying their office had heard i’d be starting in 2 weeks, but they weren’t sure if it was accurate since the start date fell in the middle of a pay period. I told them I hadn’t heard anything yet or gotten a final offer.
Then, my status on usajobs also changed yesterday to selected. Did this happen to anyone right before getting their final offer? I was under the impression that I’d get my start date before the background investigation was completed, but have read different things.

Quick update - after waiting 4 weeks, I emailed the HR rep to see if there was an update, and she told me that the security office said they “couldn’t start my background check because I hadn’t completed my PIV enrollment appointment.” I told the Hr rep that I went for my PIV appointment the day after i received my TO. She emailed the security office telling them the date and location I had completed it at, and they said they were able to locate it.
I’m so frustrated because i feel like this 4 week wait was for nothing, and I had rushed to go do the fingerprints because they told me my deadline was 10/1. If they hadn’t gotten anything, I don’t understand why they never bothered to follow up or anything until I asked about it. It just goes to show that regular follow up is important on the applicant’s part, despite the advice I see on here a lot that says “just wait, don’t bother them, it always takes forever, etc.” Who knows how long my paperwork would’ve been sitting in limbo if I hadn’t checked in and asked for an update. Ugh.

HANG IN THERE!

My timeline:

July 2018: Applied for multiple positions

Aug 2018: Interviewed in MD & given CJO same day
(Immediately emailed transcripts to recruiter)

Oct 2018: Was emailed same CJO, accepted & I was given info to complete security forms (Submitted w/i a few days)

Dec 2018: Was emailed another CJO which I accepted
*my recruiter changed around this time*

Feb. 2019: Contacted abt additional info needed for security forms

April 2019: Interviewed w/ Investigator & was also contacted for Poly/Psyc Exam

May 2019: Attended Poly/Psyc Exam (only needed to take 1 time)

June & July 2019: Had to submit some additional docs to Security/Psyc & this took a lil while

Aug. 2019: Emailed recruiter & found out I was cleared but she was waiting to hear from Security

Sept 2019: Recruiter told me position had been filled—ugh. Not too surprising...they tell you it’s a possibility upfront -_- (But they’d pass my info around to other orgs).

*interviewed w/ 3 diff org after original position filled*

Oct. 2019: FJO emailed! Given 3 start dates and going w/ early January 2020. Will have scheduled convo w/ recruiter later this week...currently don’t know which position I have.

**Long, long process and I just kept applying for different positions during this timeframe. First recruiter wasn’t responsive but 2nd recruiter was much better.

Can finally post my timeline!
5/10- Announcement closed
5/25 - Referred to subject matter expert for review
7/3 - referred to selecting official
7/31 - contacted for interview
8/7 - interview
8/21 - tentative offer (offered at step 1, about 12k less than my current salary)
8/21 - submitted step increase request, along with pay stubs.
8/29 - contacted by interview panel and told that they submitted paperwork for step increase
9/25 - step increase approved (long 5 week wait, but I was employed so I could afford to wait.)
9/25 - submitted OF-306, piv paperwork, etc.
9/26 - contacted by security office about setting up PIv appoint
9/26 - PIV enrollment and fingerprinting
10/3 - received email for EQip and other paperwork for public trust background check
10/5 - submitted eqip
10/23 - contacted HR about status of final offer, and was told that security office hadn’t started my background check since i “hadn’t done my fingerprinting”. After I told them I completed it on 9/26, they somehow found it.
10/29 - saw that my credit had been pulled on 10/24 by Data Facts, and 10/26 by Verato. Assuming one was for suitability and one for background check.
10/30 - i emailed security asking if they had an estimate on how long the initial suitability determination would take now that they found my PIV enrollment, and was told that the office cleared me on 10/25, and that HR would be contacting me.
10/31 - forwarded email from security to Hr, asked if they had an idea of how long the final offer would be since I’ve been cleared. HR told me she’d be in touch that afternoon or the next morning.
11/1 - followed up since I never heard from her, but didn’t hear anything back.
11/4 - got a call from the HR rep in the afternoon with the verbal FO, which was followed up with an emailed written offer shortly afterward.
11/25 - Start date

One of my friends received her TO this morning from USCIS for the Asylum Officer position. We were both asked to submit our writing samples and reference list at the same time. However, I haven't received anything from them. Does that mean that I most likely did not get the position? Do they usually get to everyone at the same time?

I can report that my interim Secret took 10 weeks from the time my package was submitted for review. I had nothing unusual in my background.

Since I finally have everything completed and have my start date. I am a 2210-12, but my process was slightly different, I was requested to interview by the GS-14 I will be reporting to. I worked as a contractor in his office for 3 years and he had recently promoted one of his 12s to 13 so he needed a replacement. I had one short informal interview and didn't apply until after I was selected.

7/1/2019 - Interviewed
7/8/2019 - Applied
7/14/2019 - Posting Closed
9/9/2019 - Referred
9/23/2019 - Verbal Offer
9/27/2019 - Status changed to Selected
9/27/2019 - Tentative Offer
10/14/2019 - SF-86 completed (already had a secret, needed to be upgraded to top secret)
11/4/2019 - Fingerprints submitted
12/2/2019 - Final offer
12/23/2019- EOD

I thought I'd post my recent experience to offer some hope to people who are wondering "What's taking so long?"

Mid-May, 2019 - position closed.
Radio Silence...
Early July - I contacted them to ask if they were interested, since I had another offer.
end of July - Phone interview
Radio Silence...
Mid August - I contacted them to ask if they were interested, since I had another offer.
End of August - TO and request to fill out SF86 etc. and schedule Medical screening.
Radio Silence...
Early December - FO
Mid January 2020 - EOD

ETA: the interim clearance took 10 weeks. I have a pretty clean history.
In all, eight months. I spoke to my future supervisor and she said she was worried I wouldn't be available for the job after such a long wait.

Take heart folks, the wheels turn slowly sometimes.

I've been following this thread for so long and am here to say....keep at it! It's a process. I submitted 32 applications from 04/19 to 10/19 and interviewed for 3 other positions that I was not selected for. I have 5 pts veterans pref. and have been working for the Army National Guard as a DoD civilian for 5 years (0560-Budget Analyst)

My Timeline (currently in Nevada, job is in Germany for DoDEA)

Open:9/11/19
Closed: 9/17/2019
Referred: 9/27/2019
NO INTERVIEW
TO: 10/18/2019
PSIP Paperwork completed:11/8/2019
Fingerprints: 11/27/2019
FO: ?????
Start Date:????

My HR says they are just waiting on my background check to clear and then I will receive my FO, travel orders and start date.

Today, 12/17/19, I was offered ANOTHER job in Germany I didn't interview for. Just surprised to get selected multiple times without an interview.

That's great! I was told to expect 2-4 months wait after submitting my fingerprints. it turned out to be 2.5 months. With the holidays and use-or-lose you might expect that to drag out for closer to 4 monnths.

Patience is the key.
