Gear,

Will there be more classes coming in 2018? I thought Diversion would be beefed up due to opium epidemic. Any information would be great.

As mentioned in my previous post, I was supposed to have my BI interview back in September but since I moved, my case was re-assigned. I have been playing phone tag with my new investigator as I have been working out of town. At any rate, here to post that my BI interview is tomorrow morning.

And Cassandra... right on!

Similar. 2015 applicant, but according to OPM my background was sent for adjudication in July. I received the interim clearance sheet in August, all of my references were contacted, but no word after that.

I'm a 2015 application and had my interview a few months ago. Received a preference sheet for the last class and this one as well.

Does anyone know if you can be assigned to ANY of the locations listed on the preference sheet? I ask because some of the locations are listed as "xxxx Division," "xxxx District Office" or "xxxx Resident Office." Not sure if personnel can be assigned to Division offices or if they are only assigned to one type of office.

Njw85,
Who told you that OPM has not sent it back yet? I haven’t heard anything about my background for a good while, so I’d like to speak to the proper POC for info on it.

I received the interim clearance sheet as well. My contacts were notified in August also. I was told OPM still has my full background. I guess it’s in the adjudication process. OPM is so backed up at the moment.

I spoke to the suitability personnel who sent my equip. Try reaching out to them. POC wouldn’t know because they only deal with the other stuff.

Njw85: There are classes tentatively scheduled for 2018. Right now besides the February class, I'm told there are 2 on the calendar (June/July time frame and September). Now those (one or both), are TETATIVE and could shift or be cancelled. So please don't hold it that they are firm. They are TENTATIVE!!!

DannyG1101: You can be assigned to any office that has DIs assigned and has a vacancy. That includes Division Offices, District Offices and Resident Offices.

Sorry, if this in mentioned in the thread. What do you need to score on the Diversion Investigator test to move on in the process, get an interview?

Gear,

Is it normal for background investigations to go nine months when DEA asked for it to be rushed?

Njw85,

Yes! Despite DEA paying extra $$ to OPM to expedite BIs it can and often does take 9 months. More often than not it takes longer. It is critical that an applicant complete the e-quip quickly, properly and accurately. Read the instructions completely. Provide all requested information and fill in all applicable blanks. Any mistakes or omissions can and will delay the BI even longer. All OPM needs is one small oversight or mistake and your BI gets pushed back. The biggest delay in processing applicants and getting people on board is the BI.

The investigator talked to everyone and submitted his report back in February. So I’m just waiting for approval on OPM and for it to be adjudicated by DEA.

Unfortunately, these things just take time... a lot of time.

Nov 2015 - applied
Feb 2016 - exam
April 2016 - interview
August 2016 - COE
September 2016 - medical
October 2016 - completed SF86
March 2017 - references contacted by DEA as part of the "accelerated" background checks
September 2017 - contacted by first OPM investigator; additional references contacted
November 2017 - official BI interview

My BI interview was completed this morning. The investigator let me know that she "might" work on typing everything up next week. She stated that she was working on multiple contracts and others took precedence over mine. So it is what it is...

I just wanted to thank everybody here for the information. It is helpful to know about the experience of others in this process.
