Google tells me previous classes got thanksgiving Thursday and the Friday after off. Then for Christmas they got Christmas eve and day off plus the following Monday in exchange for working a previous Sunday.

Then a day for MLk.

Also comments saying you can't leave post for first 4 weeks.

You only get the holiday and maybe the day after off. For Thanksgiving you'll get the Thursday and maybe the Friday off. But you'll have to make up that day by attending class on a Saturday or Sunday or extra hours in the classroom. This year Christmas is on a Friday. You'll get Friday off only. They may release you early Thursday. And its true - you are restricted to the confines of Quantico (the base), for the first few weeks. You're not allowed to leave the base. Also, if you end up on probation you'll be restricted to the base for the duration of the training. Don't screw up and don't fail any exams. Fail 2 exams or let you GPA drop - pack your bags cuz you're gone!!! I know of an incident where a DI trainee failed the first exam and the last exam. The trainee was just 2 days from graduating. Gone!!! And don't think you can pass all the exams and screw off on the last one thinking you're safe because you only failed one exam. If by failing the last exam your GPA drops you below the failing grade - you're gone!

Tests are mostly multiple choice. However there are "audit" tests. You will be taught how to conduct an audit of a pharmacy, a distributor, and a manufacturer. You will be tested on that material. You will be given ALL the information and data you need. Its a matter of knowing how to do it or not knowing, as well as attention to detail. Most get in a trick bag on the audits because they loose focus. They rush through things and don't double check their work. You'll also have practical exercises. Report writing exercises and computer exercises/exams. And you're always being evaluated by the staff, counselors and instructors. So be aware that they are watching your every move. All of the classrooms have audio and video surveillance and the Unit Chiefs, ASACs, and even the SAC can tune into any classroom to see what's going on. All of it is recorded as well. Keep in mind - you're asking for this job. DEA isn't begging you to take it. Also remember it's only 12 weeks. Play the Quantico game. Don't get excited or upset about what you can't change. Its the DEA way or the highway. They don't care about any other academy or training you've had. They don't care that you graduated from this police academy or that training school. They don't care that you went to SWAT school. They are doing it their way. Its their house, play by their rules. ITS ONLY 12 WEEKS AND YOU"RE ASKING FOR THE TRAINING!!!! Don't walk around pouting or complaining because they make you say "good morning staff" to everyone not a student. Don't mope around about having a room mate! ITS ONLY 12 WEEKS!!! You can complain about the food - everyone does. But just take it one day at a time. Focus on the training and studying. Ignore the BS because you can't (and they won't) change it.

If you really want to read something (great for insomnia), then go on the deadiversion.usdoj.gov website and find Title 21 Code of Federal Regulation (21 CFR Part 1300 et al). That regulation is the primary resource for DIs. No need to memorize anything just familiarize yourself with it.

GearUp,

You've been very helpful with giving out information that Is a concern for many perspective DI's.

I would like some insight on the "Audit Block" section of the Academy. What can I do to be ready for this section, as it is a critical part of the Academy. Any assistance with
orienting me on how to excell with this part of the training would be really appreciated.

What are Audits as it pertains to the Diversion Investigator? What are the metrics used to complete a Audit? What type of testing will be conducted for the Auditing section of the training at the Academy?

Open source announcement could come as early as September but its unlikely. Look for it in October or November. They want to focus on filling the November class first so they are working like crazy with the current list of applicants. They don't want to be distracted trying to work with a LARGE number of new applicants when they have their hands full trying to fill the upcoming class.

ref the audit. If you can balance a checkbook you can do the BASIC audit.

GearUp,

If the DI Academy is set to start in November 2015. Is 8 weeks enough to complete the Backgrounds?? Sounds like a unrealistically short timeline.

It is possible for them to get the background investigations done. That's why they went with the announcement restricted to current "G" employees and veterans. Most already have a security clearance. The only kink I can think of that would slow things down would be the data hack at OPM. But the "G" can do pretty much whatever it wants, so yes it is possible.

The requirements for the "all" or "open" sources will be the same. Only difference will be that anyone/everyone will be able to apply - not just current government employees and veterans. I suggest to those who weren't called back for interviews and are still interested - watch the usajobs website closely and have your applications/resumes ready. Apply early!!!

GearUp,

Are DI's required to work in pairs when performing a Admistrative Investigation/Audit? How much of your time will be on these type of audits?

DOC 2015,

The rule, for the most part, is DIs always work in pairs. It is very very rare you would ever do anything alone especially when doing the on-site inspections and audits. I can't recall ever doing anything without my partner. Its for your protection. As for how much time is spent doing on-site inspections and audits - it depends. It depends on the office you're assigned to. It depends on how many registrants are in your area. It depends on how many DIs are assigned to your office to divide up the work. It depends on your supervisor and what he/she wants to focus on. A number of variables effect how much time you'll spend on this type of investigation.
