Social Security Administration

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is an independent agency of the United States federal government that administers Social Security, a social insurance program consisting of retirement, disability, and survivors' benefits. To qualify for these benefits, most American workers pay Social Security taxes on their earnings; future benefits are based on the employees' contributions. (Source: Wikipedia)

Here is a link to SS explaining what a fiend office is, they can explain it much better than I can but basically it's the local office in the community like you mentioned in Down Town Brooklyn.

https://www.ssa.gov/ny/services-fo.htm

I too was confused with what a claims rep did? We're they the one at a window, in the behind the desk calling people back? I actually assumed the ones in the back was a higher grade claims specialist, thinking we started at the window and grew into or applied for a more specializes position in the back. There was someone in our interview group who worked in another role in Social Security in the Jamaica office. According to west she told me some offices see people at a window, some at people's desk in the back, and some offices were a hybrid seeing people at a desk or at a window. SSA was testing to see which approach was more effective and sometime in the "future" all offices will be gong to the approach where people sit at a window. When will the future be? Who knows, there's budgets and construction that could take some time. The main seemed "with what's going on in the world today" they'd rather have employees be safer behind a window. It was said that people make less of a fuss if you seeing the armed guards near them. A
A far as safety goes I was that everyone who goes through certain offices (like Jamaica) everyone coming into the building has to go through a metal detector.

No way! I think its because you have more offices fighting over you since you also applied to Long Island. You will get called no worries !

Hey guys,

I was not able to post anything until now... congrats to all that have received an offer.
I interviewed in mid April and was fingerprinted the next day. 2 of 3 references were called a day after that. I received an email on Friday stating that I was "referred". Like Griffin, I have still not received an offer. A source told me that they will have everything wrapped up by Wednesday so if I don't get one today then it's pretty much over. On a side note, I'm wondering if listing 30 days as the amount of time I would like to receive before starting has hurt me, any thoughts?

By the way, I hear that the East Village FO is one of the best ones!

Thank you all for your posts, they have truly been helpful.

Hi! Listing 30 days wouldnt have hurt you. I also listed 30 days. You still have 2 days till weds although the gentleman told me offers will be made till the end of the week.
Really, is the east village a good location? May I ask the source? I read on reviews that the montauge street fo is one of the best. Good luck to you and Pete!

It seems to me those who got offers this week and late last week interviewed in the first half if April and those if us who interviewed in "mid" April have not heard anything back yet. To me this is a good sign, a rhythm to the madness, they are going in some order. Whether they are contacting people by interview date or they were interviewed based in class date. If anyone has interviewed 4/15 and later and has revived a TO please let us know, otherwise I'm thin inking they just haven't gotten to our group of candidates yet or we are waiting because we have a later class date.

Does anyone know if anyone received and offer yet for any Long Island locations. I have a friend who work's for SSA and she told me only Internal SSA employees have been called so far, and a few spots reserved for externals. Seems like NYC area are starting May31st and NJ around June 6th. Few people I know all were interviewed around same time (Mid April) and fingerprinted. I actually don't mind the wait, but wanted to know if they started, finished or didn't start with the job offer process.
