Did it specify which areas? I was selected for Brooklyn on May 18th but Today I got 4 rejection emails (Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, and Manhattan). Training for Claims Specialists does not start until July so don't give up hope everyone! There were 4 people who did not show up to Orientation and those spots may be open now! Good luck everyone!

I received the 5 emails today for each of the 5 boroughs, still nothing for Long Island. The HR rep who is listed as the contact for the Long Island announcement is on vacation until Monday. Do you guys in training have any Long Island people in your class?

I already figured I was out of the picture for the city but those emails didn't help today. The universe works in a weird way because I also got 5 emails stating I was rated in category A for other agencies for various jobs that closed since I applied for social insurance specialist. It's weird how I haven't really heEd back from anything and then 5 of them would come through today. lol. I'm not looking forward to more interviews though.

@Peter There were only a few people (3 or 4) from Long Island...I know of Riverhead and Patchogue FOs. LI training is set to be at Patchogue.

Peter I also heard two people were hired in Mineola and 2 in Freeport. I also heard they were planning on hiring a lot of people but last Friday they put a hiring freeze in place. As a result, some locations were expecting training classed of 25 people and only 6 got through. I heard this was a last minute decision.

I heard about the freeze, too. Only move internal SSA employees for a city in the Upstate announcement.

Damn. That sounds about right and about my luck for jobs I want. I'm also the guy who thought he had a great interview for an Immigration Services Officer mass hiring? How well? It felt like the interviewers were trying to sell me on working there. They were hiring 200+ people for a new office in VA. I followed up a week later was told I was in a pile to have TO's go out, what happens? I think the next day or so that big lawsuit, Texas and a bunch of other states sued over Obama's immigration plans.

Thanks for the info, do you think they may have classes later on or does this put the lid on hiring for these announcements?

I love how they want professional references and then decide not to hire anyone. I'm so embarrassed at the thought of people continually contacting my professional references and then not hiring me. I don't mean to seem ungrateful for a chance at a job but on the other side I worry how my past employers look at these? I also feel I'm being a burden (a pain in the arse, clears throat) by having people way to talk to me about 6 times now in the past year.

If you guys here anything more about the hiring freeze, please keep us updated.

@tiakay23 - I received a NOR notifications on 05/17/16 that my application was refereed for four boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, and Brooklyn). I then received 4 emails on 06/01/16 that I was not selected for each of 4 boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn).

I also applied for the same position in Long Island and New Jersey but I haven't heard anything. So far, my application for Long Island & NJ still show "Refereed".

Interviewed and fingerprinted in Jamaica mid April, references checked a day later. I'm not a vet. No offer as of 6/04.

I got the dreaded emails for the Long Island offices informing me I was not selected on Wednesday. Two questions, is there any difference in the mix of emails I've gotten between "not selected" and "another applicant was selected for this position"? Is there a way for me to find out if a reference screwed me over? I was unprepared for them needing all supervisors, looked through my phone and regrettably put a former supervisor who was hot and cold depending on the day. I made it through the interview, thought that went well, was fingerprinted, was hired for the same job out of state that I turned down because of short notice. It had to be the reference or the hiring freeze, it would be nice just to know.

Thanks for the advice... How would I go about that? Contact the HR contact for the position?

Thanks. I'd just like to be sure. It does suck for all of us that they were so anal about checking references they had to be supervisor's then we can't even be hired. I feel like I am becoming an annoyance to my reference and with any luck I'll be annoying them again next year. lol I feel bad for anyone who had a current supervisor contacted. I wish they didn't close out these vacancies ant kept these lists in place for a year or two or even better kept a file on us keeping on references, maybe interview for the same position, keep it valid for a certain amount of time so everything doesn't have to be updated over and over. This will also save HR some valuable time, really, is your reference going to change? Well, unless they get contacted over and over for the same position...

Don’t do a FOIA request if you think you have any shot of getting a job there. It creates work for them. Even if they deny your FOIA request, they still have to do discovery. On the other hand, if you been treated particularly poorly and want to get even, file the FOIA and do an appeal when it gets rejected. >:) Ha ha

In my personal experience, a FOIA request related to job seeking is generally not successful.

@HeyDude (your inbox is full)

I had my interview on Dec 4th. I hope they'd give us placement convenient to us, dont think I could do Bronx or Staten Island. I just wish I had applied back in May, I sense they were hiring more people then than they are now. Where was your interview, do you remember who interviewed you?

Hi all. Any thoughts on the types of questions that might be asked for the position of Social Insurance Specialist (Claims Specialist)? This is a telephonic, first interview where I was told to expect "behavioral scenario" type questions. Thanks in advance!
