There's also another schedule option available but I can't remember what it is. My port hours are typically 9:30-8 PM, but many ports are 24 hours, especially the larger ones or border ports. Overtime is generally available from what I can see (at least when flights and cargo are still coming in regularly), and yes you move up every year until you are an GS-11. Thanks! I pm'ed you when you get a chance

I am still stuck at 43%. My background still hasn't cleared yet, has anyone else been moving along? I am worried I won't make academy this year and or get location placement.

Hey can anyone give a good example of what the schedule could be like? Some of the largest ports like Chicago, JFK , Newark ect are 24x7 operations and I was wondering if there is an opportunity to do 24 hour shifts? Like a day and then work overnight, ect..Does anyone do that? Does anyone know of anyone that does this?

The most you can work in one shot is 16 hours (a double shift). Of course, 8 of those 16 hours is paid at the overtime rate (double). Some of the bigger ports with bigger staffs will offer Alternative Work Schedules (AWS) as an option. This allows you to work longer shifts in exchange for fewer work days during the pay period. So 4, ten hour days rather than 5, eight hour days.

From the NTEU Contract: Absent operational requirements, employees will not be scheduled to work a combination of regular and/or overtime assignments that do not allow for eight (8) consecutive hours off-duty within each twenty-four (24) hour period.

Be prepared for you training to be postponed. I started back on March 3rd. My training was set for March 18th-June 25th... due to COVID 19... I’m STILL waiting for my training to be rescheduled.

Has anyone who got the call, received their final offer letter? I got the call 6/18 and they said it would be delivered in 2 weeks. Should I email the hiring office? Edited by user Wednesday, July 8, 2020 1:20:10 PM(UTC)

I was told by hiring office I'd get a call/email with the final offer a few weeks before reporting to the port.

Does anyone know how they're conducting structure interviews because of covid and polygraphs?
I applied for 20-3 I already had my interview with my investigator and completed my finger prints.

To my knowledge there is no polygraph. I’m not sure about the structured interview...

The investigator is done with my Background Investigation. He's sending the info tomorrow to CBP for adjudication. Does anybody what's the next step? Or how long this step takes?

Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know how it works if I decide to delay my entrance date and wait for the next class? I am scheduled to start Sept 21, 2020 and when I first received the call they informed me that we are allowed to delay once or change our port location once. It looks like I might be having to do that unfortunately. Has anyone on here done that or know if that's even true? Please help me out here if you can as I need to call them and inform them asap.
Also, just in case that is not possible and I need to reapply later on, does anyone know how the process is if we reapply but had previously completed everything?
Thank you!!

Started my pre-academy today. Still no word on when Maryland will be opening up again for our academy, FLETC is underway but we're still in the dark. Supposedly aggies back in march are STILL waiting so don't expect to go anytime soon, they'll get them first before any of us who were supposed to go in October.
If you still have the option ask your assigned port if its possible for you to pre-academy/wait at a port near your hometown. There was miscommunication and I ended up coming to Arizona to report and do my pre-academy but they're saying after it's done I can go home and "work" at my hometown port. What work that is I wouldn't know until I'm actually there but it sounds like busy work (if anyone has insights I'd appreciate it). No guarantees they can do this however as it's up to the discretion of your hometown port and whether or not they are willing to take you on.
