Recently GSA posted an announcement advertising there was a "severe shortage" of qualified contract specialists/negotiators etc.,and listed a bunch of different locations. Does anyone know if this is legit in that there are a bunch of openings, or is this just another "send us your applications and we're not going to hire anyone". More specifically, anyone know if they are hiring in the Dallas region?

Thanks

I think it's legit since the entire government is short of 1102s. The problem is that it is just a pool of resumes to choose from so it seems like the only way to get chosen is to know someone who can highlight your name or talk to your local office about your interest.

It's probably legitimate in the sense there are probably jobs. It also doesn't appear to be an "open continuous" announcement for positions that may or may not exist yet at the time of posting (those are the worst and therefore receive the lowest priority from me). That said, there's no way to surmise how many may have applied or to what locations.

Perhaps Rafles is right but I don't really agree with him. I have gotten interviews from Direct Hire Authority (DHA) announcements before, without knowing anyone. In fact, in my particular case anyway, DHA announcements offer me the best odds by far.

However, I do find claims of shortages of 1102s to be dubious at best. If there really is such a shortage, then why don't I have an 1102 job right now? I fulfill all educational requirements for a GS-09 level 1102, having an MBA, and of course the 24+ hours.

So, apply if you think that job is a good fit, but dismiss all claims of shortages because no shortage exists.

P.S. In general, you can pretty much dismiss all claims of labor shortages. As far as I can tell, the most recent last time there has ever been anything even remotely close to a true labor shortage was during WWII, which of course was many decades ago.

Isn't GSA under a hiring freeze now? When will it be lifted?

I know the hiring freeze has been lifted however, many agencies have decided to continued the freeze. Has the hiring freeze been lifted within GSA, outside of this need to hire Contract Specialist? Any insight would be appreciated! Backstory, I got stuck in the freeze and remain cautiously hopeful!

Thanks!
