https://www.nalc.org/new...eases-fy2018-budget-plan

Quote:
The budget plan has expectedly received harsh criticism from Senate Democrats, but a number of Senate Republicans have taken to condemning it as well. Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and John McCain (R-AZ) suggested the budget was “dead on arrival.” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) called the budget “terrible.”

Likely everyone is getting their panties ruffed for nothing. For now.

It's just a proposal. NO presidents proposal ever gets passed. They are trying to bring public worker benefits closer in line to public benefits. I do like the 6 weeks paid family leave he is proposing though. I still would like to see a higher tsp match. Us youngsters can really bank on that. My moms work matches 10% and she's sitting on just shy of a million dollars in under 30 years.

You do not need 60 votes to pass anything I believe. With the nuclear option, having been used by both Dems and Reps, you need a simple majority. With the Reps willing to do anything to achieve their goals (unlike the wimpy Dems), this becomes possible.

It is not good social policy to put the entirety of retirement decisions in the hands of workers. Same argument applies to those who say we should do away with Social Security. Trading pensions for TSP contributions would certainly lead to worse retirement outcomes for the average employee.
