Reemployed Annuitants

Generally speaking, the treatment of a retiree's annuity and pay upon reemployment in the Federal Government depends upon whether he or she retired on the basis of a regular, involuntary, or disability retirement. Potential benefits that may be earned as a result of the reemployment service depend primarily on the length of such service.

Some details on Reemployed Annuitants may be found in a PDF file at OPM's Web Site by clicking here.

If you have questions regarding how this can affect you, feel free to post the quesitons here. Or perhaps you have been through this process before and can offer some helpful suggestions...please share.

Has anyone worked as a reemployed annuitant at an overseas jobs? How does it work? I've spent most of my career overseas and might want to do this one day after I retire.

Are you subject to the 5-year limit? Must you reside at least 2 years in CONUS to be able to go back for a 5-year term? Are you eligible for RAT travel? Will the command PCS you over from CONUS? Do you get LQA?

Is it possible to be hired for a 3-5 years appointment? I thought most of these jobs are limited to 1 year full time? If that is the case no way would the overseas command bring you over. However I have been working in Health and Safety which in many cases are difficult to fill positions.

From what I understand, a lot is up to the hiring agency, including whether you will be eligible for sick and annual leave.
