VA (Department of Veterans Affairs)

The United States has the most comprehensive system of assistance for veterans of any nation in the world. This benefits system traces its roots back to 1636, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians. The Pilgrims passed a law which stated that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony. The establishment of the Veterans Administration came in 1930 when Congress authorized the President to "consolidate and coordinate Government activities affecting war veterans."

This forum also includes the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

I cant seem to find the answer anywhere, and no one has been able to help me here. So the situation is, I started working at the VA (Records Center) in October as a GS4 Step 1, in January I accepted a GS5/6 position at the same place, obviously still step 1. My question is, will I see a step increase in October, or in January at the same time as I "should" get 6? Thanks for any input.

Your promotion to GS-05 reset the clock on the step increase; you will get the next step in January. If they give you the promotion at the same time, they should process the step increase to GS-5 step 2 first and then the promotion to GS-06 step 1.
