hey all. I have been lurking here the past week or so trying to get a feel of the hiring process for the IRS CI agent position. If anyone could give a rough step process outline of the hiring process that would be so helpful!

I already know the first step is applying on usajobs (which I'm waiting for to open up sometime this month) but whats step 2 - the last step/finish? Also, for a general timeline, how long does it take from post-app to TO/FOs are sent?

Thanks for all the help and insight! Definitely looking forward to competing for a spot soon.

1. Apply on USAjobs (Nov 2017)

2. Take initial assessment (at home) about a month or two after applying (late Dec/early Jan)

3. Take proctored exam (March 2018 for me)

4. Wait.

5. Wait some more

6. Interview in June

7. Wait a bit more for good measure

8. TO end of July

9. Drug test/background/medical in August/sept

10. Wait a tiny bit more

11. FO in late October.

Biggest wait came out of waiting for those proctored exam results. Good luck!

It has been a long process for sure, but has finally paid off for most of us!! The rest should be getting the news here very shortly.

We can't really complain though because our predecessors have had to wait 3+ years to get where we are, and it "only" took us 12 months. So the whole CI hiring process is substantially quicker than it has been in the past. 12/10 is right around the corner!

Applied - 11/17/2017
Job Simulation - 1/2018
Proctored Exam - 3/2018
Interview - 6/2018
TO - 7/2018
POD notification - 8/2018
Medical - 8/2018
eQIP invitation - 8/2018
Credit pulled - 9/2018
FO - 11/2018
Entry on duty - January 2019

My application to offer was almost one year and my process mirrored everyone else's. The biggest differences in people's timelines (days or weeks in the month) was the window of available scheduling; for example, my interview was earlier in June than those at other PODs because that's when my POD scheduled it. While our process has felt like it has absolutely dragged at times, it was lightning fast relative to past announcements. I think the average wait time has historically been 3+ years from application to final offer.

thanks to everyone! seeing timelines definitely helps out to see what to expect. As for the simulations, assessments, and interview, is strong accounting knowledge required to succeed in these? Im curious if it is more generic type stuff or if its accounting based material?

You can find your answer on this agency. They helped me a lot in that moment , when I almost did not lose my company. When my company was bankrupt, I need a money to pay a bill, but I can’t get a credit. I was advised to contact this service and they really helped me and saved my business.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! Found the most recent CI annual report and thought I'd share it for some light reading: https://www.irs.gov/pub/...gation_annual_report.pdf

So are they running buses more frequently from the Taj to chow hall? And on weekends as well? Or do you have to walk?

Yes, they’re running busses more frequently (to both your questions).

Those who started in a FO before going to FLETC, are you getting LEAP pay?

Manny, I am getting LEAP (my understanding at least)

Also for FLETC, bring a sturdy leather belt to carry your red gun and cuffs. Local prices are high.

Anyone at FLETC have an idea how full the place is right now? I have a 5 day course there starting Monday. Wondering if I will be placed on or off center for lodging. Also, what has the weather been like? Thanks.

I am still waiting too. I just completed my tax audit. I was assigned an OJI. So hopefully it will be soon.
