I'm sorry but I call BS. I am not saying every job that you don't get to file a Foia. I am saying every time you actually start the process of being hired.

For example, if an applicant was dropped during a reference check, the BG or the adjudication phase.

Obviously, this shouldn't be something that happens 17 times but maybe just two or three.

However, if someone wants to know why they failed and it it is viewed as troublesome and not being a team player that sounds like it is its own issue.

King Fed is 100% right. Not only does a Foia office or liason actually handle the request but they reply with how long it will take, how complicated and whether the requester must pay additional money for said request.

As an aside I was always told that should you make it through to getting a Secret or Top Secret that you should request a copy of your BG investigation so that you can have your ducks in a row come time for reinvestigation.

Really curious how THAT is viewed.

I appreciate all the advice, and the private offers of assistance that I will respond to someday :)

As for my situation, I did at least find out that my supervisor is, if you believe the cynical perspective on hiring usually espoused on these forums, apparently the only ethical person in the federal government, and is actively giving me neutral-leaning-negative recommendations whether for promotions or external jobs.

So much for the logic that if your supervisor does not like you that they will try everything to get rid of you...

I believe it. One time I had a supervisor give me a negative reference just so he could keep me in his department and not allow me to transfer to an entirely different one.

Good times. He later left the company entirely.

Might as well make a positive follow-up to this and also to continue validating the last couple of posts; I finally got hired, from I think interview #20, and I have the sneaking suspicion it is because my supervisor was on vacation when they would have called my office to talk to someone about me.

Well hey, whatever it takes!
