Internal Revenue Service
As a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and as one of the world's most efficient tax administrators, the IRS role is to help the large majority of compliant taxpayers with the tax law, while ensuring that the minority who are unwilling to comply pay their fair share. (Source: www.irs.gov)

Hi
I wanted to throw my hat into the ring as someone waiting on a good response from IRS for one of the IT jobs.
I applied in March and received a Referred email June 29. I applied internally as a Grade 7. I applied for three different locations. So far crickets.
I am currently a Grade 8 CSR.
I hope we all get good news soon.

Welcome to the club, Prima. I am open to multiple locations and able to qualify (in my mind) for a few roles in IT but seems like its slow across the board. How about others - are you focused on one area? While bored on a weekend maybe we can share location preferences and other timelines Edit: Locations: TX, IL, MD, DC, GA, NC Edited by user Monday, September 10, 2018 4:38:49 AM(UTC)

Not many IRS insiders here who can possibly get some answers from HR. Personally, I was expecting a lot of movement due to year end.

Finally I am able to post a response, based on the number of openings this year I am also expecting a significant movement. Good luck to everyone!

Stay patient!!! You really almost have to actively “forget” you applied or posted. Many of the reply emails say don’t expect a contact for MONTHS!!
Also, keep in mind a few things - IRS is hiring more than just 1400 IT people. They also have agents and regular HR issues to contend with. Once you get in the process, they have to run background checks, order hardware (phone, laptop,) and have a physical space for that person. Then it all has to be prepped, the accounts have to be created for the various systems, training, benefits, dealing with issues that come up on the background check...ect, you probably get the point.
Hiring is quite expensive and time consuming. All of that stuff takes a lot of work to get you in that seat. That’s why you’ll get those that work for the IRS first (they have all the equipment/accounts/experience) and quick. Eveyone else will trickle in.
Just keep it in mind when your on the other side and stressed cause even with 76,000 employees, the IRS is relatively small agency and there’s going to be a lot of work to get done.

I applied for 2-3 of those IT announcements that end in 2019. No response! But then the response rate for me for other positions hasn't been stellar either.

Currently a Fed so I know how slow things can be. One thing that concerns me with any Federal job is the longer it takes to fill/get hired, the more likely that something can happen. FY, hiring freeze, you name it and I have experienced it. I have had many Category A from IRS in the past with no movement but this time considering the number of vacancies and locations I have hope.

Does category A/B/C or “Qualified” still have anything to do with your answers versus the number of applicants?
I saw someone post a few years ago about the meaning of your rank but don’t know if that’s still applicable.
Does anyone know how to decipher?

Funny how 5 of us got on this forum in a few minutes...
The old post you read is still valid - it is based on your application package and how it relates to the job posting. Category A folks are referred unless there aren't that many then Category B (per the post if I recall).
