Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen... i hope your weekend was a good one.

For timeline purposes:
Completed my first medical and to my surprise, today at 1330, I had an email from my recruiter for my drug test. My drug test center was not by appointment, so, as of 1710 I am done with my drug test. This Wednesday is my second part of the physical. Things are moving along... so, that’s a good thing! Anyone else?

I just received my medical examination packet. And last week I received a call for an interview with OPM to become a background check investigator. Will be interesting to see how the application process compares.

You and I are on the same path right now... I just did the first half of my medical exam yesterday, and go for my TB reading tomorrow... It was supposed to be two appt. but the place I went to wanted to do everything yesterday, so now I just have to let them look at my TB test tomorrow and I'll be good to go... But I got an email on Wed. asking me to go take a drug test... I too promptly went to take the test that same day... So after tomorrow I will be complete with the drug test and medical exam portion and I will just be waiting for my background check to get started...

Anybody have an idea about how long after the interview we should get notification of selection or not? Also, what sorts of questions do they ask in the interview for those who have had it?

Interview questions cannot be revealed or discussed. But the process is fair and well constructed. The best advice I can give is be specific and be honest. Hard to tell about how long because there are many factors that can influence that, my notification was affected by the government shutdown. Wait at least two months and then call if you haven't heard anything. It's a long slow process.

Got it. Thanks! I asked GearUp the same question about the interview and he told me he couldn’t talk about it either. I just thought it was because he already worked for the DEA. Now I get it though. Lol. Not to be discussed.

Location comes at the very end. You aren't told anything until they call you with a final offer and an academy date. My background check still needs to be completed so I'm a long way off. I'll go anywhere so for me it's not a concern but if that's a key issue for you all I will say is be patient and don't hold your breath for a location of your choosing. Location is about the needs of the agency, your dream is not their concern. And whatever location you get you will be there for at least five years, transfers are not easy.

Just curious. Have you all been applying to other jobs while waiting to hear from this one?

Absolutely! This process takes a long time, no point in not exploring other opportunities.

Maybe. That would depend on the location DEA offered and the promotional potential in the job I already took. Ultimately you have weigh all opportunities. If you take a different job and you're happy there, good location, good people, good pay, then why leave? But if the job you take doesn't fulfill you or your potential there's no harm in leaving to pursue something better. Of course we're all different so only you can decide that. Agency jumping is not unusual in federal service. If you're worried it will count against you, don't. As long as you can show a pattern of advancement you'll be fine and employers will understand. The best supervisors want you to succeed. And sometimes that means moving around.

I called HR yesterday to see if there was any update on the process and was told that I passed the interview and was selected to move forward. Unfortunately, they informed me that they are still in the process of interviewing people so they will not send out emails to move forward in the process until all of the interviews have been conducted. If you interviewed around the same time I did and are curious to know if you passed, it might be worth it to call HR and ask.

August 2018 applicant
October 2018 written assessment
Received email for interview March 2019
Interview/Oral assessment March 2019
Passed Oral assessment April 2019.

Was anyone able to find out anything regarding reciprocity of our clearances? I currently hold a clearance from a previous job which I am now using working as a contractor for the DEA. Does that have any effect on the background process, or am I still looking at a long wait for that to get done?

Exact same situation, minus the clearance. Hopefully it's soon! For those of us hoping to transition jobs sooner rather than later, this process is brutal. I assume if the next phase kicks off in the coming month, I expect the class to start in fall? do you have any insight on that aspect?

Any word on when class 54 will start?
