Internal Revenue Service

As a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and as one of the world's most efficient tax administrators, the IRS role is to help the large majority of compliant taxpayers with the tax law, while ensuring that the minority who are unwilling to comply pay their fair share. (Source: www.irs.gov)

This forum will allow you to share and ask job-related questions about this bureau. This is NOT the place to ask tax questions.

Does anyone know if New York is in the first wave of hiring's? Heard from out of state locations but nothing from New York or anywhere from the North East Area. Getting very concerned.

I've heard from Vegas and California and I declined the interviews due to changing my mind about relocating to that area from New York. At this time I am getting concerned since I haven't heard anything from the New York locations.

From a post on Reddit by a current revenue agent:

"The start date for hires under the first wave will be last pay period in June. There has been no mention of the second wave in the stuff I’ve seen. I don’t know why that is, but my best guess is it will be addressed after February.

Interviews for the first wave candidates will be scheduled and totally complete by end of February. I would anticipate offers going out within first two weeks of March but that is not set in stone.

NEW NEW NEW

It looks like there will be an additional posting next week (prob Friday) for additional Revenue Agent Openings.

However, it appears this will be a Pathways posting which limits the candidate pool to current students and recent graduates. Usually you need to have graduated within the last two years in order to qualify. You will have to read the posting to see if you qualify. Those folks will be starting middle of August."

It that is true, I'm a bit disappointed. I was expecting about a one month delay pushing the start date to mid May because of the 5 week gov't shutdown.

Let's hope the interviews will be completed in the next few weeks.

In contrast I'd like to be hired now but start in January 2020 so I can be fully vested in my current pension. lol

Also right now I just don’t feel comfortable working under this administration. I know it can happen with any administration. But this temper tantrum that he threw just to get his way is messed up. I will try again once he is out of office.

So again good luck everyone!

This is by far and away the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard anyone say.

So you don’t like the president fine. But let’s say you got hired under a different admin. You do realize Presidents come and go right? Career employees stay.

You going to quit when someone else you don’t like gets elected?
I’m glad you withdrew. Less people like this I have to work with the better.

Just stupid.

If you read my entire post me not liking him is not the only reason I changed my mind. Nor was it the main reason. But I’m the stupid one when your reading comprehension sucks. I also said that I know he won’t be around forever but I don’t want to deal with working for him. That’s my perogative and I really don’t care if you or anyone else finds it stupid. If I was already working for the IRS I wouldn’t have a choice but to put up with someone like him but right now I have the choice and I choose not to.

You are rather rude and condescending so your opinion really does not matter to me anyway. And trust me I wouldn’t want to work with someone like you. Your attitude is rather off putting.

I want the job but I don’t “need” the job. So I will apply again when it’s a better time for “me”. If I apply at all. But trust and believe what you think of me will be the last thing I’m worried about. Get over yourself.

I am thinking early next week for externals - if they started scheduling internals last week and hopefully they are done with them this week. At least that is the timeline I am thinking. Scheduling externals next week and having them done by the 28th. So close, yet so far!
