For instance, I applied and I used my experience in Anti-Money Laundering for the application. The requirements now allow for AML backgrounds to apply without having to take any accounting classes. So I threw my name in the hat. About 6 years of AML, CFE, and a masters degree. Hope that is good enough to get to the next step. Edited by user Monday, February 11, 2019 6:43:00 PM(UTC)

I applied yesterday. Any word on how many we can expect for the number of hires for this announcement? Reading around the forum, it seems that it's usually around 100 or so?

Well the announcement says 150. Slots went unfilled from the 2017 announcement. If you are qualified and pass the various phases you will likely be offered a position. My FO only filled about half the openings we wanted to fill from the 2017 announcement. There were not enough qualified apps for the open slots and several that were given offers chose a different field office.

I just got my notice last week that I did t get the position for the 17 hiring. I am qualified but I feel my age played into it. While pref vets aren’t suppose to be aged out I think it’s looked at

I applied to the most recent opening. I don't have "accounting" credits, but I have done financial audits/investigations for the last few years. 1.5 years at a State OIG, other within another State department purely in an audit capacity. Healthcare related. Hoping it fits the bill.

Hey all, I am new to this forum and am interested in federal employment in the IRS CID. I see that they expanded the most recent SA listing to the 22nd. I'm not sure why that is. I have applied to the posting and am hoping for the best.

Perhaps because we are now funded past 2/15/19.

This might sound like a dumb question, but do agencies pay salary for their trainees in FLETC? I am new to the realm of federal employment and cannot find anything in my searches.

Why do they keep expanding the posting by a week? Is it due to not enough applicants? Is there something they are looking for in the applicants? I was hoping to hear something next week but that wont happen until the posting closes, correct?

Relax newguy. You won't be hearing anything next week. That's not how any of this works. Settle in the for the long haul. The posting was originally advertised to agents last year that it would be open for potentially up to a year with PODs coming off and being put on the list as need arises. Maybe this is some sort of implementation of that idea.
I know people who have taken a little over a year to go from application to start date and as many as seven years. It's not a quick process. If thats what you are looking for this will be very disappointing for you.

I apologize. I am new to applying to the federal government. This position however is ideal. Its within my education and working background as I'm sure it is for everyone who applies. I will settle in for the long haul. May I ask though what your experience with the agency is? I would appreciate any insight you could give.

My experience is that I applied, was hired, and now work there. It took years.

I guess I will just have to wait and see. I thank you for the information. How long did it take from posting closing to first contact?

New guy. Take a breath.
Getting hired at any federal agency takes time... a lot of time.
I applied to the position at the end of 2017. I literally just got noticed two weeks ago I wasn’t selected. I applied, waited. Took the test l, waited, interviewed, waited almost a year to be told no.
I work at IRS now in a different capacity.
But if you want to work for the govt, I suggest you develop a good ‘hurry up and wait’ attitude.

I can do that. I wasn't sure how the whole process worked or the time frame that I should expect. I guess I will just wait to see what happens. I am just hoping for the best at this point. Thank you for your input.

This is not at all a deciding factor for me, but in my research I came across somewhere that said Special Agents get their own GOV. Does every agent get one? and is it just like the standard sedans or are they more specially equipped with lights and sirens. Some say sedan others said with lights and siren. Also what would the reason be for issuing a vehicle that had lights and siren equipped?
