broncos55,

What position? It's interesting that you had your Psychological and Poly prior to your BI. Mine is different. I met with BI in June 2018. No poly yet.

It is for a business related position. Everything in beginning went quick. Had to do 2 polys but was told I passed 2nd one. Worst part of my background is torrenting (illegal download of songs/movies/games) and last time was 04/17 but was completely honest about it. I would think I would have received a denial by now if that was an issue.

DO NOT attempt to apply logic, reason, or common sense to this process, or any other security clearance process, or anything remotely involving government HR and/or the hiring process.

on the upside, at least unlike the CIA, you can get a reason for denial from the NSA

In my case, the BI started before the ploy.

Thought I'd post this here.

Is it OK to take an international trip while undergoing a background investigation? The trip would be very short, just a few days, and it would be to a very friendly foreign nation. Obviously I would let my POC know before going, but should I ask for permission before booking or can I just book and tell them later?

I wouldn't do it as it would stop the processing and it will cause more delays. You must inform your POC and get their permission to do so. Please keep in mind that visiting certain counties might negatively affect obtaining a security clearance.

Are you sure about that? Definitely worth an email to the POC before traveling but I for one don't think that a short trip to some benign environment would be a problem.

someoldguy,

When I had my interview (with a different agency) someone asked about it. The person who did the briefing advised against it. Even if you are hired, you still need permission to travel. I do agree that one should always consult with a POC.

Hmm, conflicting information. I definitely don't want to negatively affect my chances, so I will make sure to e-mail my POC before booking. But like I said, this is a short leisure trip to a strong US ally. Not like I'm going to Iran or Niger.
