My agency USPS was unable to accommodate me so I was given an option to apply for federal disability retirement and placed in LWOP.

I applied and was recently approved. While i was waiting for my application to process I applied for and was approved for Federal workers unemployment that is distributed by my state (NJ)

Now that I have been approved for my disability retirement will I have to repay the unemployment paid to me? I am expecting backapy and wonder if this will be double dipping in some way. Had not been able to collect the unemployment I probably would have been homeless by now.

Note that I was NOT completely disabled and did not qualify for Social Security Disabilty so I was ready an able to work just not in the capacity of a postal mail carrier.

Thank you!

Since you were approved for backpay, the chances are very good that you will have to repay the unemployment benefits you received from your state. You need to contact your state unemployment office and notify that office what has happened since you applied for your unemployment insurance benefits.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I will just have to call them and straighten it out. I don’t want to get in trouble or face penalties and garnishments.
