VA (Department of Veterans Affairs)

The United States has the most comprehensive system of assistance for veterans of any nation in the world. This benefits system traces its roots back to 1636, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians. The Pilgrims passed a law which stated that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony. The establishment of the Veterans Administration came in 1930 when Congress authorized the President to "consolidate and coordinate Government activities affecting war veterans."

This forum also includes the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

Perhaps you are working for the VA or interested in working for the VA. Here is a forum to share your experience with the VA.

No Law Organization would help. I went to a Mailboxes etc... type of place, they were done by some kid. It's almost unthinkable that this process can be done by a local Mom & Pop shop and accepted by the Federal Government

I was thinking of going to Identogo. The way the email I got was worded, they said I could get the fingerprints done at any VA hospital but it didn't say I had to get it done there. I'll ask for clarification.

I was amazed by this as well. I went to a mom & pop shop to do mine because the local police department said no way. He had me do it on a fingerprint card and not electronically

You should go to a federal location. If you are anew hire and didnt want to go to Philadelphia VA to get fingerprinted you should be able to go to another federal agency location and get finger printed there or when you call HR and ask them places you can go.

Ok I was too stressed about where to go so I drove to the Philly VA Medical Center. It was seamless. Free parking too. Just a note for anyone reading this. Hours are 8 am to 3 pm

Couldn't you just go to nearest VA place to have courtesy prints? Pretty much what I did for a position that was away from hired VA facility.

I'm not sure what you mean by nearest VA place, like an outpatient facility? I ended up going to the VA Hospital in Philly which worked out well.

Talking about VA Hospital not CBOC. CBOCs are extensions of VAHCS (Hospitals). New York (Manhattan has VA hospital along w Long island), New Jersey got VA Hospital - VA New Jersey Health Care System in Lyons don't have security manager who does courtesy fingerprints? Find that hard to believe.

Just some advice, I would get a hold of Hospital security office and ask questions. Or get a hold of HR office, they can point you in right direction.

I’m all set, went to phllly va hospital. Lyons probably does fingerprints too but I’m in south jersey about 15 Miles from philly va hospital and 20 Miles from Delaware va hospital. Lyons is about two hours away. For anyone in south jersey I recommend Philly va hospital for fingerprints. Easy access free parking staff was very courteous and friendly.

Well the VA never received my fingerprints. I tried calling the VAMC where I had them done but it just rings and rings. Edited to update. I did get through, I think I was just getting anxious. I'm still not sure if the fingerprints got where they needed to go but I was able to confirm they were sent to the right place.

A tip for anyone who is new like me to this whole experience - once you get fingerprinted, call in a couple of days and make sure whoever requested them has received them.

Yeah that's why I was asking about Lyons. I wouldn't assume them being that bad. But drive two hours for fingerprints. Let me tell you I went from Japan to phillipines after taking VA job in DC. I was told they had fingerprint machine...waste of one day trip. Ended up flying back early to Louisiana to get fingerprints done.

It can be a lot worse!

I’m not sure how Lyons would be different? They are both VAMCs. I offered to get the fingerprints redone. Japan to Phillipines to Louisiana is definitely worse. This is nervewracking.

I worked for VA at HQ level. Lyons hasn't been too bad with security, even if it's 2 hours, want the job right? Reason why I mentioned my plight is because I wanted the job. . I asked you about Lyons because despite it's 2 hours I hear no bad things in regards to fingerprints. Philly is 15 miles from and great, but always have contingency plan when things like this go bad. Delaware would have been good too. Not too much bad I saw from those guys.

Hopefully your situation gets straightened out. Check or call Delaware to see if they can help out. Courtesy fingerprinting is a SOP at all VAMCs or VAHCS.
