I have applied to several announcements that have long open dates, such as, the announcement opens January 1, 2019 and closes September 30, 2019, however, the announcement may close at any time during that period. Does GSA actually hiring from those announcements? Why are they casting such a wide net? What's the purpose?

It's pretty much pointless to apply for these jobs. A while back I asked on here if anyone had ever been hired from one of those postings and got no replies.

Yet another example of a process optimized for HR and nobody else. They get a big stack of resumes just in case they ever get the authorization to hire. Usually by the time they get to that point most of the people have found other work, at least the good ones.

I don't know about GSA but some of the agencies that do this (I'm thinking of Navy and Air Force) don't even send out any status updates. Finally when the thing closes you "may" get a note that you were not selected.
