VA (Department of Veterans Affairs)

The United States has the most comprehensive system of assistance for veterans of any nation in the world. This benefits system traces its roots back to 1636, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians. The Pilgrims passed a law which stated that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony. The establishment of the Veterans Administration came in 1930 when Congress authorized the President to "consolidate and coordinate Government activities affecting war veterans."

This forum also includes the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

I had my initial interview for a police officer position with the VA which went very well. 2 weeks later I was called back to come in for a second interview, this time it was with the Chief and Deputy Chief which was similar to the initial interview (performance based questions, only difference being asking some personal questions to get to know me and also asking for references). It’s been 3 weeks I still have yet to hear anything and they haven’t been in contact with any of the references I provided. I was wondering what the timetable would be to hear something one way or anything or if I should follow up with them?

At our station we always tell applicants if they haven't heard anything in two weeks, call the HR contact on the announcement to find out the status. Don't know what the norm is at the station you applied but we know the next day after interviews are complete who we are going to send offers to. After that it is up to HR to finish what they need to do.
