Hello all, can any one explain the time it will take to be clear for an interim clearance . It's a contractor position for IT department IRS.

Are you asking how long after you are granted an interim will you get the final clearance? The answer is anywhere from three weeks to three years. I'm thinking for for an IT job with IRS we're actually talking about some type of "Public Trust" thing here, and that could be the same 'investigation' as a security clearance or something less involved.

Again, I've heard of a broad range from a dew weeks to several months. Used to be a very quick process, now it seems to take much longer and more folks don't get an interim. And remember, just because a person doesn't get an interim clearance doesn't mean they won't eventually get the final clearance, it just means they see some stuff in the file that they want to take a closer look at.
