NO!

This is one of those times, where you just want to say: "shut up and do as you're told." We are truly our own worst enemies.

Letter carriers have 4 clocks function. Office, street.edit book, training.

Go look at the clerk clock functions. You will find your answer there. It's clerk work.

after the letter carrier turns the out going mail over to the clerk, the clerk clocks to function 241 and sorts the mail for dispatch.

The 40 letter carriers drop there tubs and parcels off at the clerk out going mail setup. Letter carriers only have 5 minuets in the office to get clocked out. The clerk takes the mixed tub of letters and parcels and sorts them on clerk time.

clock functions are irrelevant. those are arbitrary functions chosen by bean counters to account for time.

Be careful with the '5 minutes PM' talk. That is another management goal and not contractual. In fact, the Bowling Green, Ohio carriers won an arbitration over the so-called Red Line Policy. Briefly, the arbitrator said carriers have specific PM duties outlined in the manuals that may take longer than 5 minutes and there is no time allotment for those duties.

Plus, if your LMOU includes PM washup time, it's almost impossible to do it all in 5 minutes.

It's not up to you or me. The local management determines the SOP and directs the employees to follow those instructions. As long as it does not violate the contract or some other rule, you are required to follow instructions.

So when the plant starts sending angry emails. Do the 40 carriers get trained how to properly sort mail ? I think not, let the clerks who are already trained sort it. What's that blue dot thing LoL
