Hello Everyone,

I'm currently in the process for both Intelligence Analyst and Special Agent. I'm much further along in the IA path. Passed my poly and currently undergoing background. Ultimately I'd like to be a SA.

Is this a common move? Are there folks in the SA academy who are former IA?
Is this something that is frowned upon at the FBI?
Would my process be any different due to my already having a clearance? I'm assuming it would be a lot quicker as and I wouldn't have to undergo the extensive background again.
Are there time-on-the-job limits in regards to transferring? For example, my employer requires you to be in role for a certain amount of time before you can apply for other internal roles.

I already passed the initial exam for SA but I'm not quite ready for the physical aspect. Still working on getting in shape.

I would appreciate any insight from anyone who has gone through both applications or has any knowledge as to internal mobility within the FBI.

Yes, Intelligence Analyst to Special Agent is a common lateral move inside the Federal Bureau of Investigation and to my knowledge current FBI Employees require permission / recommendations from their superiors before they can even finalize the internal hiring process from IA to SA. To my knowledge there is information about this in the the Special Agent Selection Guide which I have linked below. There are documented cases of this in the real life mini series by Dick Wolf Inside the FBI: New York which features a female Special Agent trainee that is making the move from Intelligence Analyst to Special Agent.
