Can anyone tell me how the OWCP award process goes? Specifically, at what point should I file for an award?

Ideally it should be once you have reached MMI (Maximum Medical Improvement). Many folks rush into getting one, only to see their condition get much worse which would have gotten them a higher rating and bigger award. You should do extensive research on what will be tested and specifically what tactics are used to find a 'malingerer.' in your situation. Yes, yet another test to try to debunk your claim if they can get you to make certain movements which would prove once and for all that you can perform them for 40 hours a week. Proceed with caution.

*There are no scheduled awards for back injuries
