I am wondering if anyone who has purchased an annuity through/in the TSP with MetLife and is willing to share the details. The TSP folks say that no prospectus is available. Basically, they say you have to buy the annuity in order to receive the terms. I'm assuming this is because they fluctuate somewhat depending on which day you actually purchase it. But I'd like to at least see the terms on one that has been purchased in the last year or so.

Not looking to know how much you bought it for or any personal details, just what MetLife has offered in the recent past. Thanks for any help.

Just to clarify: I understand all the things that I can read on the TSP website. Such things as level/increasing payments, single/joint, 10-year certain, how to calculate it, and taxes. I'm really interested in whether you can buy more than one, can you get out by paying a penalty, etc.

Me too!
I'm particularly interested in that the annuities are being offered thru MetLife. Altho I first bought my long term health policy thru TIAA-CREF, the policy was purchased by MetLife and I have now had some experience dealing with them. I want to know more about how they handle TSP annuities.

Not having any luck yet, but I did find the RFP for the next iteration of the TSP annuity.
https://www.fbo.gov/inde...mp;tab=core&_cview=1

If the above link doesn't work, you can search in the FBO archives for solicitation TIB-2019-RFP-0005. It's in the archives since the proposals were due Oct 1, 2019. The award date estimate is in January 2020.

In case you're not familiar with the RFP process, the RFP does not specify everything that will or won't be provided by the contractor. It sets some guidelines and minimal parameters but the contractor has options for what will be provided. The final word on everything should be in the contract that gets awarded. However, I did find an explanation of the interest rate calculation and what it's based on in the RFP section B.4.a.1.
