I was told the best time to reitire under FERS is when the end of a month and the end of a pay period coincide. What are the pitfalls of retiring at the end of a month and the middle of a pay period? June 27, 2020 is the end of week one of my pay period and the date I'm considering.

The only downside (not pitfall) for retiring towards the end of the month but in the middle of a pay period is the employee will not accrue any annual leave or sick leave hours for the last pay period.

Thanks for the quick reply. You seem to be the only person out there that has a complete understanding of federal retirement. Since HR is online there aren't any local people to ask questions.

I am confused about what date to put on the Sf 3107 as my last day. I punch a clock so I'm assuming I put the date that I punch out for the last time.

You need to talk to someone in your Personnel Office or Human Resources Office who can assist you in filling out your application form for retirement (SF 3107) and in particular selecting the day you want to officially retire on.
