Disability Retirement
The federal government allows employees who are unable to work to retire under a disability
retirement. It is in the best interest of both employees and the federal government for employees to remain gainfully employed in their current grade or pay level, as long as they can provide useful and efficient service without endangering themselves, others or government property. Disability retirement should be the very last option and should be used only when attempts have been made to preserve an individual's employment, and those attempts have failed.

Made my first call to OPM today since approval. After not having been paid a dime for 28 months, and dealing with OWCP, and finally DR I made my first call to OPM. Was approved second week of October. I assumed that maybe there may be some good news in my bank account today. Nope. Got right thru to OPM first thing when they opened this morning. The gentleman at the call center was very kind, but said something that struck me as odd. He said I see your file was assigned mid Nov., he gave me the date, and said let me see if I can get you “her” number. Then after looking he said there was no number or extension for “her”. Was this just to get me off the phone as some people have said happens? I didn’t get “her” name either. He did ask for the name of my direct deposit credit union tho.The only other thing he stated was that when I see my password for online services arrive in the mail it’s a good sign that the first interim payment is going to be soon. I also asked if my records were retrieved from the NPRC by my agency, and sent to OPM. No answer to that. So basically the only thing I learned was that my file was assigned 34 days after approval, ( if he didn’t make this up ). Anyone want to chime in with their experience, or advice?

How long ago did you send a question to them? They replied to mine in a few days last month. I sent them another at 3am last night. I will update if and when I get a reply.
